I bought one of these from Harbor Freight Tools for the purpose of changing the oil. Haven't tried it yet.

The pulley tightener is a great idea for using a turnbuckle. I can't see any use for it on a beetle though.

I don't usually check this particular forum. But welcome.

Question

Why would you need that to change oil?

The fan tightener won't even work on an aircooled. Rolling Eyes

They keep your hands clean. But if you want to keep your hands clean you shouldn't have an aircooled!

My hands are always quite dirty thank you. - In fact I've had surgery on both hands for carpal tunnel syndrome. A direct result of working on my bug. While healing it's hard to get down under the bug and handle my wrench, etc. - Nothing personal, you wouldn't have known. But, you owe me one.

They're pretty common on boats. When the drain plug for the engine is down at the bottom of some dark slimy bilge they're nice to have.

I've had that surgery as well. I was surprised at how well it went for me. Hope it went well for you too. The worst part for me was the electroshock testing on my arm prior to the surgery to check for nerve damage. If they were trying to get information out of me that would have done the trick.

For the sake of your beetle, though, I don't think you should use that contraption on a regular basis for oil changes. I think it's better to let gravity do its thing and get all the gunk out through the bottom.

BTW, your Beetle website is very entertaining and informative.
