As you can see its fairly rusty but would make a good driver for a few years before restoration. I am going to put a complete engine gasket set including a crank seal. Also i have a new fuel sender for it and new rear wheel cylinders, rear rubber hoses and rear brake hardware kit. I will probably install all of that first. The paint is about 20 years old bt looks pretty good from 20 feet away. The top is nice but has a little tear at the very front edge. It could use new carpet and front seat covers. What would be a realistic price i could get for this?

It looks like it's missing the convertible sills. Without them it's worth very little to anyone who knows verts.

A lot depends on where you live.
I'd bet on the left coast, that's a $1500 car at best. Being in MN, you should be able to get maybe twice that.
I know this guy He was asking $6500. It's been a hard sell.

If you're not selling it, then what does it matter?

Those are what stiffens a Convertible, since they dont have a steel roof.

It has no roof so the sills hold the body straight. Notice how your door gap is uneven. It's because the sills are missing.

Could i still get around 3k for it once i get the engine gasket kit in and a new exhaust on it? That way it would atleast run good and move around. I wouldn't drive it on the road until the brakes are all redone.

i bought a 1970 sedan with a 1600 dp barely any rust and a newly rebuilt engine. No paint no back seat and it was missing alot of things but basically its a great start for only 900 and my 69 had band new paint and the interior was alot better than yours and i paid 2200 so i doubt you'll get 3000. but i could be wrong and i hear over hear on the west side bugs are almost half of the price on the east.

Prices of sedans have no bearing on the price of a 'Vert. 'Vert prices are generally much higher than the price of a comparable sedan. There were far fewer 'Verts made and most people find them more desirable.

That aside, I don't think anyone that is knowledgeable about VWs or vintage cars in general would pay $3K for the car in the picture, assuming no attempt is made to hide the rust/structural issues. With summer coming, a person that is not knowledgeable may pay $3K for the car.

Its probably a $1,500 to $2K car but that will depend on the buyer's ability/willingness to deal with the rust. With the amount of rust in those photos and the fact that the 'vert supports are gone, its likely this car's heater channels are toast too. The buyer is looking at a major rebuild effort.

Look what this one sold for. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Volkswagen-Beetle-C...enameZWDVW

And the paint is worse and it doesn't even run. It looks rougher than mine.
