|
|
I just bought this bus yesterday and I want to replace the exhaust on it. I really dislike whats on it right now. I don't have the bus yet but want to get started on getting some stuff together. I would like to find something that would bolt up to the 3 bolt flange for right now and maybe later go to a side winder exhaust. I've gone through the forum and can't find a easy solution. I really like the phat boy stainess steel exhaust but I'm worried about it being to low and hitting the bumper or bumper brackets. I'm not sure what size header it has. It only has a 1600 in it. Any suggestions?

I am familiar with that bus. I cant remember if the extension to the exhaust was made on the header side or muffler side of the flange. I have found with my bus that is at the same height that I have the most clearance from a stock bus exhaust. |

I thought the exhaust had been lenghtened. I never seen an exhaust like that sit so far out. At first I thought it had a merged exhaust and that was why it stuck so far out. I might just have to wait for it to get here before doing something. |

With the motor that is in it I would suggest the stock exhaust. Did they fix the tranny or are you going to do that? |

I'm going to order a Rancho transaxle tomorrow. I'll have to see what a stock exhaust looks like, I'm not a bus guy. |

That is exactly what I want but not sure if it will work. Can you post some pics of the side view so we can see if mine is lower? I don't mind dragging a little but I don't want to be ripping the exhaust of the bus. |

Actually my bus was raised back up to stock height. I believe this was the exhaust on it the whole time....but can't say for sure.
At some point this 1835 will come out and a 36hp will sit in its place
As far as stock exhaust goes.. The stock exhaust for your bus is a 25/36hp single tip muffler. Same as an early oval. So the abouve picture of the stock exhaust wouldn't be correct, but may fit. I'm not sure.. |

That's a nice set-up but it will drag big time!....Your better off with a stock muffler on that 1600....(their about $40 for the muffler and about $20 for the pipe in the classifieds).....kewl bus!... _________________ FOOK CANCER

I have a merged tuck away that shit still drags, Sidewinder is the way to go if your gonna step up your game, if it's just a 1600 and your keeping it that low go stock. _________________ I own a copy of "The Car of the Century" by Garwood. I plan on taking off the 17" wheels and going with some Fuchs so I'm not sure how the bus will sit. The engine is only a 1600 with dual carbs and a few more hp things done to it, if I remember correctly. |

IMO: This is the best exhaust for a lowered bus with a 1600.
With a big motor, How I built my last one. Used a YZF R1 stock exhaust can. It was so quiet, Which is nice while driving a big motor bus a long distance.
This one I built for a friend used a Stainless Yoshimura street bike can.
You could see straight through the thing, It was quite a bit louder than the last one.

I also designed a "wrap around" one like those over 15 years ago. Not because of "lowering" but I just wanted it like that. The first one used a low profile muffler and just went around. Eventually I added a monza twin tip which gave it a pretty kool tune. This latest one uses a "cherry bomb" glass pack and a 22" tail pipe I stumbled into at VeeParts.
I still have it and may be using it soon on the stroker! _________________ Some people are so busy being clever they don't have time enough to be wise. |

Fabbed up an exhaust. Not to difficult to do ifyou have a welder. I cut up a collector header and got a few pieces of straight and bent tubing from a muffler shop. Can't hardly see it at all.
