Yeah, I had it but hated two things:
1)Required two cutouts in the rear bumper.
2) 'FWEEM' sound like pea shooters on a beetle
So it was cut off right at muffler and 3 bolt flange welded on. |

I currently roll with an empi single qp. It is about an inch off the ground and is slowly getting higher since I am grinding it away. I just bought a stock exhaust to gain clearance and also so I can go lower.
I only have a 1600SP motor so no need to spend the money on anything else. _________________ Like a midget at a urinal, I'm always on my toes

I have one of these on my bug....... they sound great!! not as loud as the mondos but not as quiet as a single quietpack.
Not sure if it will fit under a bus??
For my bus i just welded up my own using a collecter, some pipe and a 2 chamber flowmaster with the dump out in front of the rear passenger tire. |

does a merged header hit the rear bumper or apron in a 64? i'll get the single quietpack or hideaway (whichever doesn't hit the bumper or apron. the bus will be lowered but not enough to have to raise the steering box. its a 1600dp. no stock exhaust either, engine has to breath. i've had a merged before on a bug with a worked 1776 and it purred sooo nicely on the highway and around town, ran great. i do plan on putting 1.4-1 rockers, dual 40s, electric points, full flow kit off the oil pump, sump, breather box on the engine as well. |

Depends on the length of the merge, on a true merge yes it does, hence A1 brought out the sidewinder.
All you need is the basic 1 3/8 header aircooled.net sell. _________________ (06:31:07) RoachGhia: "i drink dick way too fast" |

I honestly would save up and just get the sidewinder. You could sell those wheels to finance it! I run the sidewinder on my 1600 and it sounds awesome, and it tucks right up there. I didnt have to modify or cut into anything. |

Is that your oil filter as pretty much the lowest thing on your bus? ^^^^^^^
Surely you want to put that somewhere else? _________________

Agreed, just asking for problems having that that there. Looks to be a expensive motor, would be gutting to see it seize through oil starvation caused by a damaged filter |

Go with the stock bus muffler and dampner tube. I replaced my header with an NOS bus muffler just for the clearance but i found a lot of unexpected benefits too. Its one of the best things ive done to my truck. Very smooth and quiet. The extra backpressure really woke up the engine in the low end. That really helps with tall gears like my 3:88s.
Another unexpected benefit is better heat. It hold the exhaust in the exchanges a bit longer, so you get better heat in the winter.
As far as clearance goes, ive never dragged it (and ive had the truck low enough to drag the tranny hanger).
Good luck with your bus, its gorgeous.

If you've got a stock engine, then I'll agree with this, hands down. You can't really put a stock exhaust on a performance engine, though. _________________ -Andrew |

Just put on a stock exhaust this weekend. No more scraping down the driveway. Nice and quiet inside. The sidewinder looks cool though. |

will a stock 1600 exhaust fit correctly with pressed bumper brackets? somebody told me earlier this year that it won't fit correctly. _________________ '54 Kombi | '57 356 Coupe | '57 Samba | '62 Notchback | '63 Beetle (36k Original Miles) | '66 Pigalle Sunroof Squareback | '70 Westy |

Not sure about the brackets, but the apron does not have the correct cutout for the 1500 style muffler. The correct apron will have the cutout on the other side. If you run a later apron, I think the 1500 tailpipe will clear the pressed bumper and its brackets. _________________ nothing |
