My 1970 busses low beams went out so I went to look at the fuses..fine ...then I went to lift the relay and the orange plastic cracked...I couldn't get a good connection on my turn signal fuses now and the metal clips fell out....so how hard is it to replace a box?Get a box? I have seen a different box on the samba...any ideas?????

I've got a good fusebox out of a '71 if you can verify that it'll work. Karl would know for sure.

The '70 fuse box is one year only. You need to find another good one from a '70, or another year and adapt the wiring.

1970 is 1970 only. Part number ends in a A. The early ones were yellow. They cracked down the middle. VW redesigned them with better material. It is white. Here is a yellow one, zip tied:

Here is the white one:

At one time, I had 3 of them for sale:

I do not know if I have any left...... I will have to look. A lot of stuff is packed away somewhere..... in my move from Fresno, Ca to Oregon.

Here are the fuse box numbers and what they fit:

Each year has a different suffix letter:
70 bus = 411 937 505 A
71 bus = 411 937 505 B
72 bus = 411 937 505 C
and if you are wondering about D and E:
73 411 = 411 937 505 D
74 412 = 411 937 505 E

I keep telling this person that there is NO such thing as a 'split year' fuse box..... but to no avail. This box is 100% 1971. NOT 1970. Sure, an early 71 was built in 70 but that does not mean the parts on it are anywhere near being 1970 parts.

to confirm what karl has said, the "B" box will not work in a '70 bus. because shakysbus is local to us i was looking at whether the "B" might be able to work for him, because we have one here in stock. it might be possible, but it would be very complicated to retrofit this into a '70 because all the pin locations on the bottom are different and there are lots of small differences between the two boxes. you could not sure the '70 signal relay. too much to modify to make it work.

Do you need a different mounting bracket if you are going to take out the old yellow box and install a white 411 937 505 A box. Are they the same box just made of different material? Any help would be great.

The A box is the same, yellow or white. Same bracket.

hello,

I went up the post but I'm looking for that famous box has fuse for my 411L of 1969 which also uses the ref 411 937 505 A (yellow model).
This one has cracked over time and the sun of Portugal and the fuses are no longer valid.
I'm in France, I look around this model so if anyone would have one for sale, it would be genial.

Thank you in all cases

I used a 1971 box to replace my cracked yellow 1970 box.

By the way for those looking for this part....if you have good local salvage yards with a selection of VW's....this was ORIGINALLY a VW 411 and 412 part...hence the 411 part # prefix. You could scrounge one from a 411 most probably.

They were in use from 1968. A few year before the bay bus existed.

There are four versions of it, most of which have subtle differences in pin placing for earlier and later relay body types. Most later versions could be made to work pretty easily. They were used from 1968 to 1975 in 411 and 412 cars

There are two 411 937 505 D on Ebay right now

https://www.ebay.com/itm/403244424322?chn=ps&n...ikQAvD_BwE

There is a 411 937 505 C on ebay right now

https://www.ebay.com/itm/403041487525?chn=ps&n...CsQAvD_BwE

This is good post about the differences in each year and where they were used on the original vehicles.

http://www.type2.com/library/electrip/fusebox.htm

I like that the person who posted this makes note of the material changes. The early ones were nylon 6 which had issues with age and moisture absorption (the yellowish looking plastic) and the later ones were Nylon 6.6,,,the whiter looking plastic.
