buggy bearing carrier attached to original Thing column mount
original steering column tube with new buggy/bracket encapsulated
prior to encapsulation in steering column tube
new built column with additional brackets for turn signal as well as hi-lo beam switch

41 degrees- and a steady breeze- but the Thing and I attended the Bus Pilots Association annual February Freezeout in Boise today. We had 24+ cars- but only two of us drove convertibles top down. Only I followed the club rule of wearing shorts! _________________

sun finally broke and rains cleared. has been pretty wet recently but we can use it here as we were 24" behind this year.
60 degrees and sun, went out for an afternoon ride with my teenage son. good run. went back through my old neighborhood and past my folks old home as well as my wife's folks old home. good run down memory road as we past a lot of jr high and high school buddies homes etc. my son got some old neighborhood history.
good ride. it has been a little since I went cruising...... |

Fresh CSP Conversion Kit-Front Disc Brakes with 15 inch rims.
Only had to make one mod. Had to chamfer the inside edge of the caliper bracket to accommodate the slight radius on the 181 spindle, so it would seat properly

Pretty cool stuff in an easy to use rattle can. will post pics once all installed. soldered radio and speaker wires last weekend. radio basically ready to slide in and plug in wires and antennae. should get done this weekend. |

I've got a older version of that set-up. Mone doesn't have provisions for the pre-heater pipes. I like how it tuck ups under the rear of the car but you do have to remove them in order to adjust the valves. Really not too much of a hassle though. _________________ 74 VW Thing - Walküre

Thanks for the info Semper.... I'm going to look into having flanges welded where I can simply unbolt the mufflers for adjustments. Although, With the low miles Our Thing sees, this shouldn't be more than once, Maybe twice a year...

Finally got my gauges fitted into the dash panels. Installed a modified a left side panel for a right side so I could have an auxiliary fuse panel. Nothing is functional yet as I need to build the wiring harness for all the sensor wires.
Removed the ashtray and relocated the 12VDC socket there. CB radio and stereo will be remounted into some sort of enclosuse under the glove box.
Surprised just how tight everything fits. Had to GENTLY massage existing wiring around the gauges in order for everthing to work. Volt meter is still on order so there's a hole next to the Tach. Wasn't planning on having a volt meter but had to work around existing holes in the panel. Extra switch on left panel is for fog lights.

Top coated speakers pods during the week with L87 Pearl White. Got radio and speakers installed with help of my sons yesterday. Sounds good for just a pair of speakers. of course we have not had a radio to date. Took a ride to test out noise levels etc. sounded great the whole time. the angles and locations help push sound up and out.
also added some window screen material behind grills for a little protective measures for the speakers
time for drawing board for rears. picked up a pair of Kicker 6X9's - 3 ways. most likely will add a small amp as well.
here's some pics
