Yanked the doors off, put the bikini top on(1st time in two years), and went for a drive to town to get address changed on the registration!
Gotta love the morning in a East TN! No wonder they call 'em the Smokey Mountains!

I love the bikini top. It's on my bucket list for my bucket car. Seems to me the one I saw (TTS maybe?) had a self-sustaining set-up that didn't need a roll bar and could be folded back like a regular convertible top (but less involved). That's one neat top as it is. Applause

On a Mack Truck, maybe!! That's what it's from... Just a shade off from Fords "Grabber blue"!!!

@Oasis, this IS a TTS bikini... It has the hoops and does Not need the roll bar.. It isn't full fame though, so it can be folded back, but not "quite" as easy as as that...... Never tried it though, I have been very tired of driving directly under the sun for a few years.... It's bikini top at minimum, and tinted window(If possible)... Solar radiation is an ugly thing! Crying or Very sad

I'm on vacation with an iPad so I'm not doing full blown surfing -- on the net (too little time) or on the long board (too little talent). It is good to know that is from TTS and wouldn't need the roll bar. I think I would like that option in the summer and the regular soft top for the rest of the time.

Years ago I was looking at a Boss 429 in Grabber Blue. I didn't think I could quite afford it then. If I knew then what they are going for now, I would have found a way to have afforded it.

I found the thread with the bikini top -- I've seen bimini top -- folded back.

Here

Next for me is deciding between tan (the color) of the regular soft top and the acapulco blue and white.

Got my gas heater working by using the posts on the forum, Thanks Guys. The thermostat was frozen up but was able to get it free. Not bad for sitting out in the open for 8 years. Put all new fuel lines and new filter in. Lubed all cables and Works great. One question is there a duct that conects the vent under the dash from the heater to the defrost duct. Both the ducts are open and just blow air towards the floor. Found some other pictures and all is good now.

1974 VW Ting and I am trying to fix an issue from the previous owner. Guy said his son broke the wiper stalk off of the thing. when trying to use either the wiper or the turn signal, only thing that happens is the light at the bottom of the cluster comes on solid. It does have an aftermarket steering wheel So, I replaced both the wiper and the turn signal switch from the thing shop. Still the same thing, Anyone have any ideas? It doesn't look like it has been butchered up or anything.

Sounds like a flasher unit, maybe? Or wiring out of sorts somewhere...

Yanked the 34pict 3 off, and got about 80%done with install on my single 2bbl weber idf...
I enjoyed the stock setup, but I really feel there is more driveability to this engine with more appropriate air/fuel delivery..

Needing to mod the throttle cam a tad, and install the new throttle cable, then I'll be in business! Confused .... Hopefully!

And here it is!! Sheesh, three posts in a row... noone else giving their Things love? LOL those references never get old..

Nused Weber 40 IDF... Set it up with Minimal effort, using the Weber tuning bible. She fired right off!

Idle is smooth, and with a tiny timing tweak, throttle will have No lag. right now there is a teeny stumble off idle(no where near the 009/34 pic stumble).

Very excited, she sounds like an old CB750 4cyl motorcycle!
Very quick to wind up, and snap back down... Cool

OK I have been doing a couple of things to the Thing after it shut down coming back from a car show at the Tanger Outlet Mall on in Barstow, CA. We won a award from "Lonnie and the Lug Nuts" band The Top Choice Award. 120 cars there, we were the only Thing and I only saw one other foreign car there a datsun. On the way back temp was around 90 outside. Car just shut down like it did way back with a vapor lock. Called AAA for a 20 mile tow. Got it home and started right up. Itstalled electric fuel pump next day. Started car and it ran for 15 minutes and shut off. Called Wife to turn it over. NO SPARK. Pulled the POS electric ignition out today and install a Bosch single advance distributer and Blue Coil. Started it and ran for 1hr. I have worked on VW's for over 50 years so I know how to adjust points. It will stay in and it runs a lot better no lag at all. So I have a spare fuel pump fro my 73 now.

Congrats on the award, AND the lesson!!
Electronic ignition modules are hit and miss!
I've run them in each of the 14 aircooled VWs I've owned over the last 22 yrs.. Had one fail, and I beleive I reverse wired it and fried it...

Yet friends have had them die randomly, just as your ps has.... And another's have had them dead out of the box....

Weird thing those modules...
Glad you know how to set up points!

It is a lower profile than the standard....
But I can't say if it's the CBs
Setup or not. I got it second hand and it's Not stamped with any brand markings..

Air cleaner and throttle cable is new CB stuff...

I can measure it, if ya need...😉

Spent the day making room in my garage so I could put both Things inside. The 73 will be heading to the shop later to be painted. Have had the bumpers on both cars powder coated and they sure do look nice. Will be putting a new top on the Blue one and the White one will be getting the top from it.

I got my new floor pans and some other random pieces. Once I finish the dune buggy, the thing body is coming off for rockers and floors, as well as some other rust issues.
