Thanks for the compliments guys!

This pic was snapped after I spent 20 min trying to get it "un-stuck"
I had got trapped on a ice sheet in the driveway and she didnt go anywhere until some major shovel work! LOL

Question Were these THINGs supposed to have posi traction or just single?

I seem to only have the passenger tire spinning and with street tires they didnt do squat but spin! It was some slick stuff tho, we got 8in of snow, it melted a few days then froze solid and got another 5 inchs of wet snow.

even my f150 got stuck in 4wd in that stuff, took out a row of 1inch pine trees trying to get it unstuck! I'm SO ready for spring!!!

I went to our monthly club get together and picked up a bay window wardrobe cabinet from a friend. Ther was just enough room for me to drive after we got it in... All the club guys got a laugh out of watching us trying to fit it between the roll bars.

Saturday attended the Blooming Good Show held in Nacogdoches TX. For those not familiar, it is the oldest town in Tx. It is located in piney woods of east TX. weather was beautiful. Great venue in city park off the old downtown.

approximately 100 cars in attendance, won Best Off road.

They did a neat feature and had each of the top winners drive their cars to "center stage" to pickup award. pretty cool.

Best part, my oldest brother came in from 200+ miles away with his 1970 VW aircraft inspired creation. He also took one of the top awards.really cool as he got me into this VW craze 10 yrs or so ago. we were able to attend this same show 4 years ago. great to hit together and both have our cars appreciated by VW enthusiasts

some pics to share

I installed half of the top windshield molding. From both directions -- passenger side and driver side -- I would get halfway, then get stuck. I feel like I need an extra set of hands.

Since I spent four hours reorganizing from a winter of storage movement but little activity and my hip (which needs replacing) was barking at me, I stopped for the day.

Next on my list is completion of above if my wife is with me, or installing the two-point seat belts as well as other molding.

Then, it is on to putting on the convertible top. That will produce the springboard of many other things to do since it will be drivable again without worry of getting caught in the rain.

Joe

Same brother that got me started in this crazy hobby.

I just posted several build pics of his first VW creation from back in 2006. still driving today. You can check it out in the Other Vehicles/Volksrod forum here on the samba. Look for post, "Faux Ford - Quick build look"on first page.

The airplane ride made its first show last April at the TX VW Classic. still working some minor bugs. It has been a 4-5 yr build.Let me see if I can load some pics in the Other Vehicles Forum as well.

Its a one off ride for sure and quite strange to drive sitting in the middle of a VW chassis. Close the canopy and you get that Goldfish in the bowl feeling. What is really trick is he has full operational aircraft mic and headsets for passenger and driver. Gives you that true sensation.

enough ramble on this post.I will drop you a note and more details to come on airplane car

Was awarded first place in Thing Custom class at Buga-Paluza 17 in Chattanooga!!

There were ~ 9 Thing in attendance!! Excellent Thing turnout, especially for a heavy rain predicted weekend!! Saturday was gorgeous!!

Well done! Great color combo, too. I have often looked at your Thing for ideas and inspiration, but this was great opportunity to take in your Thing as a whole.

Cool

I entered my Thing in a show this past weekend, the Texas VW Classic. I didn't win any awards, but I had a great time on the Saturday cruise and made a few new friends during the show.

I installed the parts for hand-crank starting a week before the show, and it got a lot of attention at the show. One guy was asking a lot of questions, and asked if I could really start it by hand. I said yes, but that I was past the fun of doing it. He jokingly asked if he could try, and I said sure! He started it up on the second crank, and he was thrilled with the experience. He started telling everyone that came by that he had started it by hand. It was really funny how excited he was about it.

Thanks Oasis. If there is one thing I've learned from the handful of shows I've entered, it is to just have fun and appreciate the experience regardless of the rankings. I've been in multiple shows with some of the same Things, and at one show I'll get a trophy and they won't, and then the next show the opposite will happen. You just never know how the voting will go. Sometimes the awards go to the modified Things, other times it is the stock cars that get awards. That is what makes it fun - you never know who will take home some bling and who won't. It is fun to talk with other enthusiasts, see what others have done to their Things, and check out what other awesome things others have done to all the other VW models. The folks are always nice, and I'm always impressed with the talent, passion, and creativity that owners put into their old VWs.

You got your a thing to a show! That's award enough for me!! I agree on your description of placing/not placing! I never expect to place, but sure won't argue when they like Our Thing enough! She hasn't been to that show in 3years, and has been "done" for 4... Nice to still catch an eye to get another 1st!

Awesome! That's a testament to your tuning! Nice work! Cool
