If you're in the Central Cal area, there's a place in Fresno called Wheel King. They keep 135's, 145's and 165's in stock all the time. Their specialty is making sure you get the correct offset on custom cars. Good guys and really on the ball with VW stuff.

I was looking at the tire rack in a VW shop the other day. There was the assortment of different tires lined up next to each other. The good ones meeting our requirements, the 165's, and also 145's and 135's that are popular on the older slammed bugs. Massive difference in sizes. The small ones look like little roller skate wheels in comparison. My Super is light in the front but still a lot heavier than the other bugs. Sure wouldn't want to put any tires on it that are less than the VW required published size.

Hi folks! I just ordered 5 165/80/15's from onelinetires.com.

Kukmo's are out of stock as everywhere but they have 'about 100' NEXEN's for $35 each.

Will see how they compare to the Kuhmos I got for my 01 Mexi in June. Just 'rescued' an 02 Mexi needing tyres (pardon my English).

Darn good price, and IN STOCK! Hope this helps anyone looking.

I'm real happy with my Nexen's so far. I'll have to say that it's by far the smoothest ride my bug has had with 3 different sets of tires in the last 10 years.

Just ordered 4 Nexens from Onlinetires.com. They show Federal and Kumho in stock, but didn't have them when I called.

I will let you know how I get on, but I did fit a pair of Mexico VW factory tires (155/80/R15) from my Mexi bug to the KG as a teporary measure. They seem to have much thicker/stronger sidewalls, with no significant bulging. I will check out tire prices in TJ next time I travel south of the border.

Just got the Nexens on the KG. Loog good. Sides a little softer than I would like, but $140 for 4 and $27 delivery (all 4) was the clincher. Had a long run today and rides very nicely with no road noise!

What seems strange to me is the OD at 24.5 inches. The OD should be 1 inch more.

Anyone know where to get 165 snow tires? Not interested in useless all season tires, just snow tires.

And keep in mind, narrower is better with snow tires, wider tires just spread your weight around so it's more likely to float on top of the snow and ice and slip, while narrower tires concentrate the weight so it "digs in" better.

On my Ghia the Nexens measure near enough 15" on the front. I have inflated these beyond factory spec, to about 23 psi, as the walls are so soft they roll on corners otherwise. Same on the back, up to about 30 psi.

I did have some Fuzardi (or something like it!) off my 1998 Mexican bug, which have correct height, firm walls etc and I heard they are real cheap south of the border. Next time there is enough daylight left in a day I may drop down for a fleeting visit.

I just sent a query to tiresunlimited to see if they can get the same tire in a 165. A site in Germany indicates it exists.

Euzkadi? This brand is owned by Continental.

Thats the one! And a very nice tire too! I was told you should be able to get them for about $20ea down south of the border. We'll see. And the real beauty of these tires is that they were supplied to VW in the correct 155 X 15, so they fit in the spare wheel well without beating them.

Closer to $25. There are many other brands to pick from in a 155.

Bruce-Don't forget the clutch pedal cross shaft with larger hook to go with the taller arm on the trans to get the full benefit.
