Why? I've seen that car in person and it's very nice. Not $32k nice but really well done

Based on the big button glove box, the high mount side markers and bullet indicators, I'd bet it's a 63.

I'm not a fan of the IRS conversion nor the Type 1 engine, but it is a nice quality custom notch.

NOS is neat but since used ones are what... $25? And with no shortage of them out there either.

I'm surprised this car hasn't sold...I'd like to buy it, but I'd have to part with my 54. Decisions, anyone else have data on the car?

I can't talk to price for such a one-off care, but I've seen this car a couple of times at the Meet-in-the-Middle event (like earlier this month), and it is remarkably well done. Other than the hood bulge and radiator cutout, it is quite stock looking., and cleanly done.

I'm not a Type 1 fan but, if the oval is nice, I wouldn't trade for a custom car like this one.

My 54 is nice, double the value...which is why I wouldn't trade it. Would need to sell it and then use money to buy this.

It is tough without seeing this car in person, but it appears to be done well. It was also done in a way that can be easily modified by the next Owner to "make it theirs" so to speak (trim, bumpers, rims).

I do.

I see at least $5950 in crash damage and rust repair,
and that much again (or more) in body work and paint,
and there's $$$$ re-trimming the interior, replacing missing/broken parts
And thousands more rebuilding the drivetrain and mechanicals... Wink

Not in Volume, but in recent ads, there seems to be more 356 parts for sale than type 3.

From a personal perspective, I don't post many ads here any more...it's not worth the hassle.

My NOS parts are now primarily sold via private groups or in Facebook groups.

A lot of the stuff in the classifieds is either junk (broken window regulators, broken light lenses, broken trim pieces) or seriously overpriced.

Some examples from quick search:

Overpriced:
$15 T for fuel line (a $5 part):
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1144070

$400 Late bumper reinforcement tube ($200 fabrication or $50 used):
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1828878

$205 for mismatched pair of front turn indicator housings:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1799659

$100 for a late emergency flasher switch, knob and bracket ($25 at swaps):
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1926615

Broken:
$40 for a broken fuse box?

More overpriced shit:
$220 for a fuel gauge? 200% market price.
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1566152

$40 for a used dome light (one of the easiest Type 3 parts to find NOS):
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1319093

$250 for a 6v generator:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1421026

$250 for sunroof guides (200% more expensive than typical):
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1920439

$100 for an early fuel pump that needs to be rebuilt AND is missing the cap (the actual 'hard to find' part):
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1687830

$1000 for a 1966 engine that needs to be rebuilt (rod knock):
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1907779

$100 for a used steering box that needs to be rebuilt:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1601150

$2750 for a tool kit (for sale for 2+ years) - how many people paid less for their whole car?
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1557593

$450 for a front beam with wide 5 drum brakes:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1898250

$350 for shocks that are older than I am:
