You missed out on when Facebook was for young people, those days are long gone man. Don't get on Facebook to be young, do it to connect with the rest of humanity since everyone else is on there. |
Aaah, another perfect reason to not do this.

I get on FB all the time. I moved 2200 miles from my friends and family, it's great to keep up with births, marriages, deaths... Favorite bands touring, people introducing you to new bands. I keep in touch with a lot of VW people that used to be here on thesamba but are no longer.
Plus facebook groups for everything. I just scored some original ST seats for my '85 Nissan King Cab lowrider on a 720 only group. I've scored original coolant overflow tanks for it, Heated steering wheel for my Yukon, I've sold type 3 parts. It can be too much sometimes, but awesome for some things _________________ Stop dead photo links! Post your photos to The Samba Gallery! |

Pretty much what I use it for - with the addition of sharing photos with family. I unfollow anyone who posts photos of their food or they get too political.
I've found a decent number of good Type 3 parts via groups - parts I never would have known about otherwise. |

If you search in Facebook for "Type 3" or "Notchback", "Squareback", etc. you'll find them. There are also other related groups that you'll find once you search for the above terms. |

You are kinda going out over the deep end with this doom and gloom shit.
For every ad you post of "the" asshole there are typically multiple ads for reasonable and or dirt cheap prices. Like those single port manny's.
Then for the parts hound there is the lazy seller that throws out a pile of stuff to look over in an ad. One can find lots of good cheap stuff that way. Once you find one good thing - always look at the guys other stuff to see if he has something else to throw in your shipping box and asked for a multiple purchase discount. Fuck - sounds just like a pickers episode.
Oh and there is that old antiquated way we used to do things prior to Facebook. It was called face to face interaction and it was performed at these grand events called "Meets of the Swap". People would bring their trinkets to sell by the pounds. Sometimes the hundreds of pounds. To which you would ask the seller how much an item was? Maybe asked for a reduced price? Still to much? Then you politely left - circle back in an hour - oh still has it - ask how about now? Bingo, get your part. Yeah I know lots of work with all that walking and actually interacting with someone.
Swap deals are still there. No one wants to cart their shit back home, again, again......
I hope you guys think finding stuff is hard. Then Ill get it. Hold it. Sell it to you later at a profit
For the noob. Go fucking look. Stop asking for handouts. For the seasoned vet. Stop bitching, you are now "old" and there are no more T3's in junkyards. (oh for the noob... a junkyard was where we had to go in the stone age to hopefully acquire a cool part, had to take it off ourselves, bring our tools in... maddening that we had to work so hard for a part. ) _________________

It's the "Official whine about Type 3 cars and parts for sale" thread...what better place to post this stuff?
How about this format?
But I'll call it 'overpriced shit' vs. 'reasonably priced shit'...yeah?
Not everyone lives in California or Oregon where junk yards either had / have these parts or a swap where Type 3 parts can be found. You know when shows local to me have Type 3 parts? When I bring them and people look at the parts, then they either ask what it's for or they look at me like I just shit on their shoes...otherwise it's all Type 1 or 2 parts. I can find Thing parts or Schwimmwagen parts easier than Type 3 parts at local swaps. Might as well be looking for unicorn testicles.
When it comes to working on these cars - I miss the days of living in Southern California - answering Recycler ads every Thursday and trying to get to the Type 3's before Anthony showed up in the white stake bed Toyota pick up. |

Maybe just call it - "Sucks to live in Chicago while owning a T3 - Thank God for the interwed"
And whine threads are like that big bowl of candy on Halloween. You know the absent people that put the bowl out with the sign that said "take one or two."

I buy 90% of my stuff from Europe but that doesn't mean that trying to sell broken parts or overpriced parts isn't a discussion point...I think it is one of the reasons for the thread. And it started a conversation - of dubious value - but a conversation nonetheless. |

Sure but there also is a point to where you either get how it all works or you are just complaining to complain. Sticking your hand in the fire again after you were just burnt is stupidity. My discussion over these gripes is finished because its now going into stupidity overtime.
Have fun venting, Im going back to my secret FB group. _________________
