Bought a 66 sedan in very good shape a few weeks ago. Haven't owned a bug for about 30 years. I forgot how great they are to own and drive. I found an electric motor mounted in the tire well for the wind screen spray but it wasn't connected. Did the electrics and plumbing to get that working. Added new wipers, a deck lid lock, an accessory port tucked in the glove box to charge my iPhone but, my favorite (and perhaps sacrilege to some), replaced the 5 watt clear parking lights in the headlight buckets with 120 lumens directional amber LEDs. |

|
|
I had a '66 bug in college (back in '70)-two years ago I decided I wanted one again (who needs a stinkin' Lincoln?). Bought a '62 from a fellow in Tn who gave me a very honest appraisal of the car; while it had some rust, he had treated it, rebuilt the engine, tranny, all the bolt-ons, brakes and tires-the only things he didn't address was the wiring and rubber which I have been working on-car runs and looks great and it's my daily beater. I figured, I needed a second car so that if my only car gets laid up or needs serious repair beyond my comfort level, I'll have something to drive-so I bought a '66 from a fellow in Maine-this car, though it looked good on paper, was a disaster. On the bright side, it keeps me busy and I'm learning more than ever (thank God for this site!!!!!). Today I changed my plugs-each one was tight as hell and I swore I was going to strip them coming out-took the advice of many here, warmed up the engine and soaked (as best as I could) the plugs in penetrating oil-and with effort and time, they did come out (black and worn); I used anti-seize on the threads going in, torqued them down accordingly and crossed that off the list-I ordered the proper distributor from a seller here on TheSamba and will replace that next week and also do the timing. What fun! |

Took the '62 out for a small breather and Cibie Oscar shakedown run. I expect it to reduce my MPG by 2, and increase my night visibility by about 1.5 miles. If everyone here says it's the dumbest thing on this beast, it may have to go in the garbage.

I did some work on my interior. With my wife's sewing help, we made new door panels. I got some vinyl from the fabric store and masonite for new door cards. It's not perfect, but I like it
I also made my own assist straps out of an old purse strap of my wife's. Came out looking good.
Finally with some of that cheap fabric store vinyl, I fixed that ugly area under my back window.

Cleaned out my gas tank and main fuel line. Complete tune up and valve adjustment. Mid-way through the brakes, still have to switch out the MC. _________________ 1946 FL

The body shop finished the repairs on the pan in the battery area on my 59 Euro Sunroof. Had all the fenders, doors, hood, decklid....etc media blasted. Sent my semaphores off to be repaired. A busy day!

Today I put my pride in my pocket and put on a crappy front bumper so I could legally drive around. Bad pic but a pic nonetheless. It is straight even though the pic is very crooked haha

I purchased this 1600 S/P motor duel relief case turn free not sure about trying to rebuild it myself or use it as a core. I have never built a motor before but I would like to try if the cost savings would be worth it, _________________ Look off in the distance it's a bird it's a plane no it's a frog no it's just little old me Underdog65 and my Sweetpolly passing your way. |

Bought what looks like a decent 1960 36hp, complete, and am starting to refurb parts of it.
This weekend, the manifold and muffler were de-crusted and finished with high temp coatings.
I have only degreased and washed the tins. I am debating powder coating vs semi gloss hi heat black paint. The cooling ring is finished in black, and I zinc plated the hardware. _________________ Plate of shrimp |

I drained the transmission and put new gear oil in it. PUlled the swing axle boots, but ran out of daylight to put the new boots on.
Also since the my '63 sat for 10 years and now that the weather is in the 70's I am starting to find the residents that came with the car are coming out, I had to kill my first very large black widow that was chillilng near the M/C - fuel tank area. _________________ 1946 FL
