I bought this torque tool to remove the axle nut from the rear drums. The tool works well! I bought it in order to fix my parking brake, or lack of parking brake, issue. With out a properly working parking brake I had to attach the peace of angle iron to stop the hub from spinning.
Still could not figure out the parking brake issue though
But I guess that's for another post. |

I changed the original 50 year old torsion bar bushings on my 67 bug. I hate throwing out original, VW stamped parts but it was time. I noticed the stability of the bug was a bit loose at freeway speeds in the rear end. After changing the bushings, it is tight again.
These bushings were a bit worn to say the least.

Bill, is that a convertible decklid? Or did you graft in some vents from a later decklid?
Nice looking car there BTW.

Thanks for the compliment!
It's an original 67 convertible engine lid. It was painful buying it! I think I paid $650! They didn't make many 67 convertibles and what remains today in terms of the 67 convertible bugs and their original parts are sought after!
The engine lid is worth it though. Living in Arizona, that extra air getting into the engine compartment lowers the engine oil temp 10-15 degrees. It also lets the hot air escape the engine compartment faster after shut down for easier hot restarts. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

I think my wallet just gave out a little moan! $650 is steep for sure. I have been looking, so I feel your pain. I was thinking of grafting in a set of vents from a later model decklid. But I just can't bring myself to putting the cutting wheel to my og decklid. Maybe I'll find a couple of candidates from one of the local swap meets this summer.

No kidding, right? I was curious and looked in the classifieds on this site. I didn't even see one 67 convertible lid for sale.
Someone was making them by cutting out the vents of 70-71 bug engine lids and then welding them into the 67 lids. They were re-selling them for "I think" $250. You may search Google for 67 engine lids and maybe you'll find the link to his site.
You can pick up a standard 67 engine lids for $30-60 bucks and then the 70-71 engine lid for the same prices. Make a template and start cutting. That way, you have your original lid for the car.
When I repainted my 67, I painted the original engine lid and the convertible lid. It's handy if I ever sell it, I can remove the vert lid. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

I've been looking for rubber mats for my VW Beetle that can trap residue water running off me when I climb into my car when i get caught in the rain, dirt, pebbles, dust before it finds its way to the nooks and crannies of the floorpan.
I wanted a good solution that was a good fit so that it didn't move if I stepped on them the wrong way.
I found these mats in Autobarn (Melbourne Australia). But its probably sold elsewhere.
They also have edges which help trap the water. But some alterations had to be done to make the front ones fit.
(I already have VW rubber mats - but they are flat and don't do a good job of trapping dirt.) These mats sit on top.
I like them - they give a good solid feel.
Of course I'd like to get custom made ones that are 100% perfect fit but these ones cost about $6- $8 and is also easily removed.

Replaced my beat down headlight buckets. The outer rings were rusted and they wouldn't adjust. Don't worry the headlights on the car were aftermarket so there was no real point in keeping them. I did however save the springs out of them. Also replaced my broken horn grilles.
Gee I wonder why they wouldn't adjust Got to love the stuff PO's do
Old ones were rusty, broken, missing the parking lamp, and had the old crappy sealed beam headlights
New ones installed. I also put some H4's in. Once it gets dark out I'll adjust them.

Looks so much better! What bulb did you use for park lamps? I am assuming it is a 12 volt car? |

Yes it has been converted to 12v. It's a 1156 bulb. _________________ 2015 VW Passat Wolfsburg Edition

Awesome, thanks! I recently swapped out my buckets as well. The new bulbs I put in were 6 volt bulbs, and understandably did not last long. Off to the parts store! |

Some guy like five years ago or less on here wanted a 67 convertible decklid and there was one that looked perfect in the classifieds for like $350 and he was saying it was too much. Now they are going for like 2-3 times that much. I told him it was a good deal but I don't think he wanted to listen. _________________ 67 Convertible July 67 Yukon Yellow
