Nice job ; may I suggest taking it to the next level ;
Take your pieces to a local auto upholstery shop and have them edge bind it for you .

Discovered the joys of using a grease gun on the front end of my '63. Something very satisfying about seeing the grease squeeze out of the joints as you pump the grease gun. |

I've only had my Bug since spring. I think I read that you have to jack up the front end with the wheels suspended to grease it properly. Is that true? _________________ Rick

yes |
Please correct if I'm wrong, but you don't have to have BOTH wheels off the ground at the same time...the side that's being worked on has to be up. |

I ordered some open barrel quick disconnects and a crimper. Previous owner used lots of insulated cheap connectors. Looking forward to looking a bit cleaner and more stock. |

'63 sedan. Took off the rear seat back slipcover to find what I presume is the original True Red vinyl. In pretty good condition! Sadly, the front seats don't have the original material under the covers. I'm guessing they were not good, which led to the tan interior. I think they cut off the white piping so there wouldn't be a lump under the cover. Hate that. |

I wired in a relay for my horn which now finally works.
I also prepped as much as I could for my clutch cable install - removed the front seats, detached the gas pedal at the top, and loosened the 17mm pedal assembly bolts. I would have pulled it all apart and pulled out the cable, as well, but I am famous for starting a project, doing the teardown, and then having to wait a week for the install, forgetting in that week how things go back together. haha So when I get the cable, I'll pull everything apart and do the install in one day. Or weekend. |

So today I decided to replace the front and rear tranny mounts on my 62. Disassembly is a breeze. Replacing that front mount is a pain in the @$$. My 8 year old had to remind me that cuss words are very inappropriate, so I sent him inside with his mom so that I could enjoy talking to myself..lol. After a few hours, I was able to get it in. Recommend watching classic vw bugs YouTube video on it. I got the front mount from O'Reilly auto for $5 with a lifetime warranty and the rears from amazon for $12. Hope it fixes the hard clunk and shifter movement when I let off the gas. |

Nice morning for hangin' out in the garage...with Christmas music playing in the background. Adjusted Heidi's brakes, lubed front suspension, and checked/adjusted tire pressure.
It's pretty cool how this little car tells me when she's due for these two maintananace items...brake pedal starts to require more pressure and the front end starts to squeak. |

I tracked down and rebuilt the correct SG profile ignition switch (thanks ratlookvw) got it installed, and then managed to re-key my door handle and engine T-handle to work with it. (Previous owner had installed a SU profile switch with spade connectors...)
(Stock samba image, but my switch is identical) _________________ 1959 Fjord Blue Volkswagen Beetle

Changed the headlights from the shit EMPI H4 ones to Hella H4.
Replaced the spark plugs that require the removal and re-installation of the carbs. Started the engine and was greeted by a nice fire. Forgot to double check everything before starting it.
Now I get to remove my engine and clean everything under the bonnet.
