Mallory 6853M is the CDI box with a single stage rev limiter and all you need for a street car. Better hurry because Mallory was bought out by MSD and will probably be discontinued. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/maa-6853m

Go to Summit Racing or Mallory site, and download installation manual.... Believe it says you can use just about any standard automotive coil....

Ive got a malory&crane six series both have revlimeters,I got them for my street car&bug, but probably for bug&356 now, I dont have a clue as to when I will ever use them. I didnt know msd bought mallory, mallory was always a real good company to deal with on repairs. I though mallory was part of another conglomerate.

The ct pro manual says it only suitable for ct pro coil! I tried to find the manual on the mallory roushyates racing cdi box but no manual. I'm getting the roushyates because I can get it for $130 shipped.

Mallory was/is part of ACCEL Performance group....

http://accelnation.com/

Dont know how it was worked out other than ACCEL may have divested it self of Mallory and it was purchased by MSD...

Ok found this... Seems MSD bought the whole enchalata...

Would bet manual for 6864M would be same as 6864RY, and it appears Roush/Yates box is just rebranded 6864M...

Hi just tried a Mallory 6864RY with a Non Mallory spec coil ( Its a CB performance Magnaspark Dizzy and coil) The ignition box or whatever craps out under load, ( It runs perfectly fine without the Cd box hooked up)
Dont really understand why but I guess you do need to use the specified coil.....

That's what in the manual says that even other mallory coil will not deliver the same as the specified coil for this cdi box.

I have used a basic Mallory Hyfire 6a on a couple of different cars for years.
No rev limiter, but I'm not a hot dog.
Both were used with the MSD Blaster SS coil which is a nice compact unit that fits and works well in the original coil location.
They were both perfectly reliable.

The mounting brackets were simple to make.

hi, did you have to use the power filter with the CDI set up?

I chose not to use the Mallory power filter because, if you read their literature carefully, Mallory makes no guarantees of its efficacy.

When I was using a Mallory distributor, (that car was sold years ago) I went with the 6100M, the so-called e-spark module which, according to Mallory, was engineered to lower the cost of manufacture to compete with Pertronix type triggers. It was machine assembled (as opposed to hand assembled like the original 605 module).
Anyway, after switching to the e-spark, I never had another module failure.
I did install an additional ground strap between the engine case and the body per the advice of Century Performance.

My only ACVW now is my '74 Thing.
As you see in the photo, the CD ignition is triggered by points in a Bosch 019.
Very happy with that.
Good luck, Mondshine
