About how much does the rack weigh?

My manual says it weighs 6 kilograms so just over 13 pounds.

phip. yes the rear hatch does sometimes fall and slam without the bikes on. as long you are careful around you you are fine. I have always had nike racks on vehicles from yakima to thule to cheap ones. These fiammas are awesome. You can put the bike on in a few seconds without taking off the wheels, they are a stable ride. There really isnt reason why you would want another rack.

Very nice looking- thanks for posting the pictures.

Is the shelf held in place by a single clamp on either side or is there some sort of support in the middle or ?????

Update 6/24/2008: As I previously posted, my bike rack was missing some parts out of the box. Two washers and two rubber pads.

The vendor sent me a new, unopened T2 Fiamma bike rack as a replacement, but it was missing the exact same parts. I contacted Fiamma USA and they weren't interested in helping me. They said I had to deal directly with the vendor even though I was sent a second factory sealed rack that was missing the same parts so there’s obviously and issue at the Fiamma warehouse. I then contacted Fiamma Italy and they have been friendly and much more helpful than the USA division. Unfortunately Italy has been unable to provide all of the missing parts. They did provide the missing washers, but after two other attempts they have been unable to provide the missing rubber pads for the lower fixing brackets. I even sent a scan of the user manual with the missing rubber pads highlighted but they continue to send the wrong parts. I’m thankful Fiamma Italy at least tried to help me, but I’m assuming the rubber parts just don’t exist. It’s time for me to find some adhesive backed padding and get the bike rack assembled and put to use.

wilgartw,

Yes water pours in any time water gets near the top of the rear hatch; it's a big flaw with the racks installation! But my buses do not usually go out when it is wet ;0), the solution I am planning on implementing, is using Urethane rubber (same as used to glue windshields in) and saran wrap to create a water tight seal around the top hooks, Fill Voids...

I will experiment on my old seal an hopefully, work out any bugs before installing the new seal on my bus after repainting the rear hatch :0)

Just an FYI, the other problems I listed above make what could be a Great Product a disappointment...

So with one of these racks, is it at all possible to open the hatch with the bikes ON the rack? I understand that the weight of them would make the hatch fall closed, but could you prop it up with a 2x4? Probably not safe, but I'd like to have quick access when necessary.

Anyone have additional comments on the seal leaking issues?

Has anyone noticed the rack causing dents in the hatch?

Depends on the bike type and roof: if it is a road or tri bike maybe with a mountain bike no. Also the westy or camper roofs are higher and make it harder. that is also a lot of weight on open hinges.

Can't tell about leaks, most of my leaks seem to be coming from the window itself

no sign of dents

Just to pass a tip on, one of the first things I did was replace the little nuts on the two lower bolts that hold the lower hatch bracket/clamps with wingnuts... probably not the best idea if you're worried about theft but makes the thing 10x quicker to take on and off the bus.

Is there a list - or does anyone know - which models of fiamma rack fit a bay? There seem to be quite a few that look really similar...I am trying to keep my eye out for one secondhand in NZ as the price of getting one shipped out is truly eyewatering...

Is there a fiamma bike rack that fits the t2 bay that will hold 3 or 4 bikes?

The rack built for the type 2 has an adapter for a 3rd bike.

I'm not knowledgeable at all about the fiamma products, but the page you linked to says that's for the Vanagon bike carrier. Will it work on the t2 version (not sure what all of the differences are).
