That's the real deal. Looks like its got a genuine original Meyers Manx accessory Convertible Softop and Sidewinder exhaust. Congrats! The plastic front turn indicators definitely have to go though.

The front turn signals look like Morris Minor ones... Shocked

The mudflaps have got to go too IMO...

Here's my Manx in the Netherlands in 2004(?). Very Happy

David, I didn't notice the mudflaps until you mentioned them. I guess my sub-conscious blocked them out. East coast equipment laws is my guess.

Seriously, I do like the carburetor cover though. A bit like a period metal hood scoop.

This Manx also has the 'select-a-drop' accessory.

Ruska, I would(and have before) take your front bumper and modify it to be just like the one in the Manx catalog picture. The one you have with the triangular bolt on bracket is the type that JC Whitney used to sell. The tubes are actually bent with nice smooth curves acoss the front, not like the pointy ones that are sold in buggy shops now. They look cleaner and more original without the triangular bracket.

BL3Manx,

Thanks for your answer. I have a lot to learn about the Manx.
I also want to change the wheels in the future. I like the Cragar wheels, what do you think?

Chrome Cragar wheels would be a perfect choice for that car. You should also use a set of the finned cast aluminum wheel adapters. You could probably only get the small hubcap that says Cragar, but one day somebody might reproduce the original Meyers Manx caps.

I'd also use the Lucas 488 type front indicators Dave has on his Manx. Mount them right at the center of the widest point on the fender's front edge.

You might want to also replace the screw off gas cap with an Aston type. It wasn't in the Meyers catalog but its a great period accessory. Steve McQueen had two on his Manx.

Bruce Meyers also sells the original type Meyers Manx valve covers. I'd have the tail lights, the Dietz 820 headlights and spacers and maybe the rollbar chrome plated too. Get that sidewinder ceramic coated.

Dune buggies were all individually made, so there's nothing that's really wrong(except mud flaps), but this is the kind of Lucas indicator that was most commonly used.

You think in 1968 B.F. Meyers & Company used these lights on the Manx?

Thanks for the link. Lens color = amber?

I think I read in early Meyers Manx instructions that the recommended lights were either those (amber) Lucas L488's, early Karmann Ghia bullets or stock VW ones on the wing (fender) tops.

Meyers Manx sold kits and buyers built them using parts of their choosing. There were a few Manxes that were built as "turn-key" versions at the factory, but they were usually custom ordered and their components varied widely.

However, the Lucas 488s and KG bullets were commonly used and both look a bit neater than the stock VW indicator sitting on top of the fender.

I also have the original invoice of this Manx.

Meyers Manx Kit "B"
Standard Metalflake Finish
Export Crating
Gray Select-A-Traction
Roll Bar, black
Exhaust Systems
Convertible Top - white

So it was not a "turn-key" version... and the first owner bought the lights himself (Lucas L 632) I think. Thanks for your help guys. Very Happy

The wheels will fit the 8x4 ¾ adapter. The lug nuts will fit the wheel but I can’t tell by the picture if the adapters have ½ or the standard GM 7/16 studs.

I don't understand this. Who can help me please?

The adapters I have, have 1/2" (0.5 inch) studs(threaded fasteners). However the only way to be sure is to measure the diameter of the studs on your adapters.
