I've seen this done several times. It's not a hard wheel to fit. The offset on those wheels is pretty high (about 50 I think), so you need some spacers (or a disc brake conversion), but it's definitely doable.
I looked at doing some d90's for a while - very similar wheel.

| im painting my phone dials black and on the orval circle cut out im painting them the body color, well for my till be green.... u coudl do back and in inside orval chrome |

I have 15x7 wheels,with an ET od 52.3 !
What do I have to do to run this wheels on my beetle 1300,but to get the wheels under the fender?
How thick spacers do I need?
I have a 2" narrowd front beam,and running swing axle type rear end with the long axles.

I would get short rear axles, narrow at least another inch up front. The spacers for wide 5's are about 1 1/4 inch thick.

I still remeber that feature. That mazda maple red paint looks awesome on that car, ant the stance is just right... 
It's a Volksworld ex-art editor car, later he changed phone dials for some 17-inch alloys, but i didn't have a chance to see the car on some decent picture, just a small one in the classifields...
As a regular Volksworld reader for the past 11 years, it is still one of my favorite cars of all time ! |

| Like someone else said, you'd need at least 1.25" wide spacers. I'm not sure why someone would sugggest you go with short axles, that will make the offset even worse. If you do a disc brake conversion that will fix it right there (since the push your wheels out a little over an inch. |

Mine 
The car is a 61 on a 69 bj/irs pan,
front end: 2"narrowed beam with 1"spacers, 15x7" et 52.3, 195/55 tires, 944 hubs/disc brakes from VDub Engineering. Lots of wheel/tire clearance. on the outside, reduced turning radius on the inside because of the offset.
Rear end:
944 trailing arms, brakes, torsion bars, spring plates. 15x7 et 52.3 225/60 tires. Rear fenders are CCC fiberglass 1.1/4" widened no clearance problems anywhere.
