I would sure as hell buy some good heater channels, and floor pans. I had gotten a kit car on a 71 bug pan for free, and it had some new floor pans in a box with it. They are still in the box, as i refuse to use those cheap thin pieces of shit. I wouldn't even sell them, as i just wouldn't feel right about passing along that kind of shit. So i guess now their only purpose in life is for welding practice _________________ 1974 Super Beetle: Custom resto in progress

You've got new pans and you're refusing to use them! Once they're welded in they are strong as hell! If you paint them and keep them dry you're Golden! Wasting years begging for uber fine parts to be manufactured won't get you "on the road"! _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

FENDERS FENDERS FENDERS FENDERS!!!!
You can take crappy heater channels, pans, quarter panels and with a little (or ALOT!) effort you can get them to work.
Fenders are what they are. The headlight buckets are in the wrong place, the horn grilles are off by two inches, the running board flange is not even close, the rolled edge, the shape, the weight, etc. Nothing you can do but run 'em and hope nobody notices. |

Hell, i would rather make some out of a thicker guage sheetmetal, and roll some beads on it. bend it a bit with a sheet metal brake, and some welding. Sure its a lot, but it will sure as hell last longer, especially the way i beat the hell out of my cars . _________________ 1974 Super Beetle: Custom resto in progress

i`ve just had a message from gerson about progress with these heater channels , so far he has been unable to source a good set of originals to copy. if this is al that`s holding the guy back from producing quality channels that a lot of guys on here would really appreciate , then surely someone out there in arizona or the like has a suitable shell, or channels which gerson could use ........ anybody ? please |

Why don't several of you guys cut out your channels that you do have and all ship them to him? Once he gets ALL of them together, I'm sure he can "build" some good examples to use for patterns.
He may run into many of the same problems that he has with bus parts. Dozens of variations of the same part for different years.
It could possibly take him years to get the proper parts to make high quality patterns... a pair of NOS '49 channels, a pair of NOS '50 channels, a pair of NOS '51 Channels, a complete NOS floor pan for every year in question, etc...
He has done an outstanding job with all of the bus parts but it has taken YEARS. Even though he has been thinking about the Beetle parts, he is basically changing directions and starting fresh again for all the different parts, years, and variations in question. I'm sure it's going to be awhile.
I would think that since he has a HUGE following for his products here on TheSamba that he might even post some sort of "Ad" that would let the Type 1 crowd in on the release of the parts? |

Right now I am working on early beetle front fenders, someone in Europe was kind enough to let me borrow set, I am still looking for a set, or sets of heater channels, some early floors, etc,etc,...I am working on these beetle panels while still working on my "beloved" split bus panels...I just got some laser scan data from a gentleman in Europe who wants fridolin parts made, he spent a ton of money to have those parts laser scanned, there is just not enough hours in the day....tons of work...but I am not complaining... _________________ that's not patina, that's fucking rust man!!!!

Holy dead thread! Sorry about that. Gerson, I just wanted to say that I would be in line for a set of 1966 Bug fenders. I'd give you mine to copy, but...that's why I need fenders.
Glad to hear you've got a lot of work. |

there are no further plans to make any other front or rear fenders...the split and early oval fenders are done and shipping as we speak......but the response has been less than what was expected...the shipping is too expensive and the labor to finish the fenders once they are stamped is too expensive....... _________________ that's not patina, that's fucking rust man!!!!

Another quality part bites the dust due to cheap VW owners
You may want to reconsider the bullet fenders, as there are a lot more ovals than splits. Even just the 58 fenders with the running board bulge and holes for the turnsignal.
Right now you are in a good position in the type I market for quality parts as the best available now suck pretty bad. |

I do think the price of the bug heater channels is a tad steep. Almost $400 a side? Too rich for my blood. $400 for a pair? I'm in. Just saying. It is nice seeing someone making quality sheet metal though! |
