Took my old stock-type muffler to a muffler shop and they welded up the leaking seam. Pulled off the Bugpack header and single quietpack muffler and re-installed... wanted to see if I could get the same power with the aftermarket stock-type as I did with the header. Nope. At least not with stock carb jetting. There was a custom main jet I used with this muffler that went missing, so the mixture is too lean. Hopefully I can get similar performance, if not quite the same, as the header. I really like the looks of a stock muffler and taper tips, and would like to leave it that way until the header has to go back on for the track.

On Saturday I participated in a scenic cruise around the Bear Mtn, NY area (lower Hudson River) held by Chris (classicvwbugs.com). Mine's the last one in the line. Hal from NY also participated in his white '70 Ghia cabrio, seen near the front of the line. Here we are on break in Peekskill.

Used mine as a prop for some publicity photos of my boys' (well, 3 of the 5 are mine) band, Skinny Guys With Glasses.

Installed a Retrosound Model One radio. It required making some pieces - including a wire bail and plastic cup to hold the dash speaker, but I'm happy with the result. With the one speaker, the sound is definitely retro, so I loaded up the Billboard Top 100 for 1971 and went old school.

| Rebuilt the pedal assembly with the new clutch pedal extension kit and their double wall reinforced roller pedal. Both pieces are from AircooledParts.com. Primered all the pieces with VHT and then painted with a Black VHT. Cut of the extra piece of the pedal assemble after converting to the roller pedal. |

| Lost some acceleration coming home yesterday. Throttle cable was holding on by two strands at the carb. Picked up a cable on the way home today. thirty minutes later were back on the road. |

I phoned and got a different parking spot in my underground storage. I got a new one, a few spots away from a boat where the owner was scuffing up one side of the (thankfully covered) car. It also looks like over the winter he put something with seawater on the hood and it seeped through the car cover and dried on the paint.
Hopefully no damage done. _________________ 67 Ghia, 1776 with dual Dellortos, Engle 110, 914 2.0L alloys |

| Have Empi Riverias, completely stripped off the black paint. Fully polishing the outer lips. Then going to paint with primer, gloss black, then clear coat. Will post before and after pics. Have two wheels polished so far. Will finish polishing the other 2 and hopefully painted by this time next week. They are coming out sweet. Will mount 185-65-15 Falken ZE-512 on them. |

Finished installing the top hinge on the passenger door, adjusted the window and the door latch. Wow, what a difference.
Adjusted the valves, clean the grime off the engine, reset the points and retimed it. Now it runs much better without a flat spot. _________________ 70 Ghia Black convert-stock w/122k 1600 SP-barn find

I decided that after rebuilding the engine the stock rockers with unknown mileage should be replaced. The Mofoco 041 heads have heavy duty valve springs so I went with Scat stock ratio solid shaft rockers. The rocker side play was really off on the #3-4 side. It took a bit of fiddling with shims and washers to get the side play to .005. The #1-2 side was almost dead on. I only had to swap out the Scat shaft block with the old one. It was .03mm wider. It took out the excess play.
Have to wait for a couple of weeks to test drive. She's blocked in the garage with a stash of yard sale stuff that is happening Memorial weekend
Maybe the extra room could be filled with a Ghia vert project I have my eyes on _________________ Retired Sambanista |

| well ive got a 61 convertible, in need of restoration. but yeah lately ive been tinkering with it. put the correct turn signals back on with the clear glass. cleaned the whole underside, buffed the steering wheel back to the color (it used to be all yellow), hammered the front hood hinge straight again and aligned the hood correctly, replaced old dried out fuel lines ( funny story, the whole fuel tanks gasolline has jelled up over the years so im trying to clean it completly out and re-coat the inside somehow), all of the things ive been doing to the car are basically cosmetic, but atleast it looks alot better than it did a year ago. all it basically needs is a new battery and clean gas tank to get it running. brakes also need work...but yeah ive been finding something to do to it every week. |

Well, I was there LATE anyway. Showed up around 3:00pm, just in time to hear them say "See you next year" and watch people packing up. At least I had a chance to give mine a much needed bath, and I'm glad I did because there were a pair of Ghias parked by mine when I came out. We chatted a bit before I left (Hello Art!), but I wish I had cruised through the grounds before hitting the road. I did see a working gas heater that I wished I had picked up, but it was for a beetle and I only had about $50 on me. I snapped a couple photos with my phone, then realized my Nikon was in the trunk! Below is one shot with the people blurred because I didn't get permission before posting, but who wants to look at people when there are Ghia's in view!

I tried to get to the Ypsy show yesterday, but ended up stopped on I-94 (near the I-75 split) with an electrical issue. Tried for over 45 minutes to fix it, before calling a friend (who was at the show) for help (he showed up around noon). We towed it back to his house, and a couple of hours later got it going again. Turned out the little nylon piece that holds the moveable part of the points had slipped out, and caused the points to ground out (no spark). I was mainly using the show as a shake down run for my 64 T-34. It was the first time it was out on the highway under it's own power since 1968. Ran good though, other than that issue. I look forward to putting some more miles on it. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Too bad you were sidelined and I did not not come across you. I carry a spare set of points and tool set and would have stopped for sure. Besides, I would have loved to see a T34 in person.

Don't worry about it Paul, there's always next year. I plan to put a bunch of miles on it this year, and more next year too. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof
