Yes, the painting was the easy part. The 3 months of bodywork was the intimidating part for me. |

With the Marine Corps' birthday coming up, I declared today to be Mothers (metal polish) day here. All the bare metal parts are getting the full treatment, including the you know what. The shine on these intakes alone should add at least 5 HP to my Ghia LOL

I've found an easier way to get those extra 5HP

After changing back to standard time, it's now dark when I drive home from work. Not a good combination with impatient, irresponsible drivers speeding home at the same time. Weekends are for family and chores, so we drive the larger family car. So that only leaves every other Friday that I'm off work to possibly drive the Ghia. So yes, it will sit in the garage and get dusty... |

Topped off the oil, took it to the car wash to clean off the dust and then took it for a nice spirited 50 mile spin.
Everytime I take it out I always say that I've got to drive it more often.

Put new points and rotor in. My friend Winton is refurbishing the carb. Cleaned and seam-sealed the rims, now ready for paint.
Cleaned out my study (overfull with Ghia parts!) and cleaned my garage.
My sarcastic wife watches all the frantic activity and wants to know, "Oh, is your car coming back soon?"
I sure hope so. The metal work is done and next up is prepping for paint and paint. The primer coat will be on by Christmas. Then three weeks to rest and cure before the final coats go on. _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly

After having cleaned up the passenger floor mat with Isopropyl Alcohol, I used 'Stormseal' wetsuit repair adhesive to reinforce the splits and cracks on the underside. It's strong, clear and flexible, so ideal for the mats. I might lay strip of Stormseal tape along the worst area, where there are still some fine cracks, to provide strength. The holes for the tabs have been given a wider area of reinforcement, and the topside will get some adhesive around the holes but more discretely! After it's cured, I'll coat with glcerol (glycerine) and leave for a day or so, then clean off. The rubber absorbs a little Glycerol and becomes slightly more flexible.

Very cool shot... reminds me of bugs racing through our wooded neighborhood when I was a kid. My summer tires suck eggs in snow and have no traction to get the thing going forward.

Carrying on with the repair of my passenger floor mat...
I had only used one 15g tube of Stormsure adhesive to repair the large cracks and splitting on the undersurface. I then used some strips of Tufftape
to reinforce the weakest looking area
And the area where the mat bends to the passenger footrest
This flexible clear tape sticks really well and has really strengthened the underside. The top surface has just had a tiny bit of the glue to reinforce the tab holes.
Next step was to cover the surface with Glycerol (glycerine) which we can get from the chemist and leave it for a couple of days before wiping off. The rubber absorbs a little and definitely ends up a little more flexible. I've used it on NOS wiper blades and seals and it leaves no residue.

Installed a rebuilt 30 PICT-1 carburetor and installed a new 12 volt coil to replace my defective leaking one.
