I got to work degreasing my engine and transmission, Aswell as fixing some rust underneath. By far one of the dirtiest days of my life.
Soaked in kerosine and oil, all over.
Remember kids, wear safty glasses or goggles, I walked around all day with a close call on my face. Only noticed because a friend asked" Are you wearing mascara?"
Not a bad end result though, still afew small spots here and there.

Had my first actual breakdown! Throttle cable snapped on the freeway. Towed it home using a tow strap, bought a new cable from AutoZone for $2.99, who had it sitting on the shelf in their local warehouse. I was scarred that the old cable would get stuck, but it came out smoothly. New one one went in smoothly... until it got to the firewall. The engine seal had worked it's way down and covered the hole, so I had to fix that first.
Other than that, just been enjoying it. Except for last week when the weather forcast changed and I had to do a half-hour drive in steady rain (grrr). Ironic that the car I don't want to get wet is so warm, dry, sure-footed, and comfortable in the rain.

I have my '70 Coupe (1776cc motor) stored away for the winter, so I fired it up in the garage and let it idle for about ten minutes. Put the trickle charger back on and slipped the car cover back over her for a while longer...

Not much, in the process of "fabbing" an adaptor to my present engine stand to accommodate an ACVW engine. The 71 will be "up" for resurrection to daily driver the first of the year. Working 3 days a week at a local hot rod shop now doing odds and ends (mostly wiring), so some of the extra $$$ I make is earmarked for the Ghia and I have full use of the shop for my personal projects on the days I'm not working. We need to clear some of the back log out and make room for it, but we have shipped 1 out and have 3 that are very close to moving on to other shops for a while (we don't paint). Should only need a few days to a week to get her back up and on the road with the help of facilities. _________________ Chuck in Socal

Welcome Duck58!
Tantalising glimpse of rear end, but looking good!
I'm sure everyone's keen to know a little more....
And pics in the daylight always go down well!
PS, I'm possibly just up the A1, over the border. |
Sun is out so going to give it a wash later, pics to follow.
Don't think you're far from us, we're in South Durham.

There we go, a little work to do before before mot and registering but very happy with its originality, may kick a separate thread off for it when work starts.

Yeah, factory ac although pump has been disconnected. Everything is still there though so a little project for the future maybe to reinstate it.
Very happy with the car, the more I look around it the better it gets although the list of door/window seals is growing (car is originally from Fresno so it is to be expected).
Will try to get it running a little better tomorrow as carb is icing up due to the hot air feed pipe missing.
McDonaldNeal, thank you for the offer, I've not checked the condition of the wiper blades so will take you up on that offer if required.
One thing I do need is the deck lid Volkswagen script badge but yet to find the correct one on line if anyone can point me in the right direction?
Thanks
