Removed the doors yesterday... Anyone have any tricks for getting the last stubborn screw off the door hinge??
Will post some pictures of the hinge rebuild today. If I can get that darn screw off.

If a standard propane torch, or even a torch using map gas capable of higher temperatures, is not helping you free two components joined by corrosion then chances are you need to have one of these ...
... Bernzomatic WK5500 Brazing Torch Kits in your toolbox of tricks and techniques.
When everything else I have tried has failed, that torch combined with PB Blaster has never failed to do the trick for me.
However, seeing as the hinge is made of aluminum IIRC, just be careful not to heat it up enough to melt the metal. |

I believe it's a #4 screw driver/bit. Hard to find. _________________ ----------------------

I just drilled one out of my '73. I used a 1/2" drill bit to take the head of it off. The rest of it screwed out of the door by hand... go figure.

finished assembly of the entire chassis/pan. all suspension is rebuilt and powdercoated, New beam, new balljoints, new urethane everything.
Finally starting to use some of the $3500 in parts. Now gotta decide if I tackle the body this winter, or wait until next and drive the hell outta it first.

Did the exact same thing. It loosened up after driving a pilot hole for an easy out... Go figure. Turned out great, no more extremely loose door hinges. Thanks for all the great suggestions guys!

It's a DuPont product, mainly used for frames and undercoating. Got it at O'Rileys. Says it can be applied directly to rust to stop corrosion... But I sanded rust to bare metal where needed. It was mainly just surface rust, lucked out with the pans on this KG. _________________ My 70 beetle was totaled Now to build the Ghia I always wanted. Rest in peace Ruby, I will miss you. Oops, sorry. It's not a DuPont product, it's Dupli-color. It's about $44 a can, brushes on, and seems to be very durable after it dries.
