I ordered key blanks from samba for my new 63 bug a couple days ago. Only came with one. Lost it tonight. Valid reason for knowing how to hot wire. And seriously, who's stupid enough to think car thieves don't already know. Like they're coming here to learn.

I just wanted to chime in late to the game that I'm visiting my folks' house and just fried my ignition while using a static timing light (came loose from ground, hit the carb and cooked the ignition through the auto choke I assume). They want the car out, and I don't want to pay for a tow, so yeah, I was looking to hotwire my own car (for which I have the key of course, so the wheel lock is no issue).

There are tons of good reasons why someone might want to bypass the ignition besides being a felon, and I think a thief would have better ways to find out than to go on Samba.

Now I'm off to try to puzzle it out of my wiring diagrams.

nice thick wire from the positive battery to yhe positive coil. then jump across the starter solenoid to start the car. simple. easy. just make sure the car is out of gear first. youre welcome.

a few reasons why one would want/need to hotwire a car: 1-to steal it. 2-to get going should the ignition switch/safety lockout fail. 3-to temporarily bypass a PO hack wiring job to start the car. to start a car that is under restoration and the engine needs to be fired. im sure there are other good reasons too.
