Ok then, I've got dropped spindles to put on it too, but are they nessasary to have? I want to be able to make the car super low for shows etc, but lift it up a little for daily driving, and to keep the cops off me a little! |

You don't really need to put them on, but IF you do, take into account that they might help push the tire out toward the fender lip, and could cause a fitment problem with your desired tire and rim choice. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

You have to buy the wheels first! Then you can test fit/measure & determine what size air-beam 2-4" max to buy. You do want disc brakes on the front, but not the rear so it stops good. _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

radars i'd say 3-4" narrowed with wide 5 disc set up on drop spindles. my square is 5" with repop sprints and disc brakes on dropped spindles and it actually rubs the inner fenders quite alot with 145/65/15s. i went balljoint set up on my swap mostly because i had a balljoint donor beam for the arms and springpacks. and i for a good deal on a set up CB drop spindles with 5x130 disc(i ran fuchs on my square before the sprints) so i went balljoint. truth be told i can only get 3 or so inches lower than i could with t3 beam. i ran 4 notches down up front before the swap and my ride height now may be 2" lower at the current ride i have set.
DO NOT go more than 4" narrowed if you intend to run shocks which i'm sure you guys have to over there. you could probably squeeze a 4.5 in there but i can tell you my 5" was a pain in the ass with shocktowers. _________________ ITMC

Cheers for the input fellas. I've got the raiders already, so it's either those, beetle 15" or type 15" wheels.
I'm building the beam myself as I've done a copls of bus ones and beetle ones in the past.
I intend to run shocks, as it will be used a fair bit out on the open roads. Sounds like the disc's are the way to go, and 4" max narrowed by the sounds of it. |

Look how nice they look without being super narrowed.

Thanks. They're so close to rubbing, but just barely don't. A slightly less beefy tire might be in order, but they're good for now. _________________ '67 Squareback

Is the tire close to the fender lip?
I was able to roll my fender and "gently" pull the fender out, gained almost 1 1/2" by doing that. _________________ Mario De Leon

I have to agree with fuhq64 though, as that's a nice group you have hiding there.
Where I live, they'd have to be stored inside, or they would rust away (too much rain). _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Brand new here, but Ive had a few squarebacks over the years. I have a chopped 69 squareback now, that I'm working on. I have a set of old school two piece aluminum race wheels that I want to use. The wheels rubbed the calipers so I put spacers on to solve that problem, which now makes the wheels rub the fenders. Any suggestions other than a narrowed beam, or is a narrowed beam my only option? Im in Nor. Ca. who make the best beam packages? I need at least 2 inches to clear everything. |

russel at Old Speed was doing narrowed type3 control arms. from memory i think they are 1" per side. best bet might be to contact him unless you want to go narrowed beam.
could you "clearance" the calipers and run a thinner spacer to avoid some of the width. _________________ ITMC

Yes i could clearance the calipers, Cut the bolts that hold the wheels together, and run a thinner spacer. I think I would still need a little more room too. Control arms may be the answer. Thanks. |
