I met my wife in 1986, I had 2 VW's, a'63 camper and a '56 convertible. She told me that she had bought a '79 convertible off the showroom floor in '79, and LOVED it. A few years later she needed money to go into business for herself and sold the '79. So about 7-8 years ago I decided to look for a replacement for her convertible and found one here on thesamba. I made a deal over the phone, bought a one-way ticket to Sacramento, the seller picked me up at the airport and we took a test drive. A few miles later, the seller asks, "what do you think?"....I said I have to buy it, I only bought a one-way ticket and I can't come home empty handed! I drove home, getting in late at night, my wife heard me coming and was out in the street jumping up and down like a little kid on Christmas morning! It is all original and exactly like the one she sold so many years ago. Now, I have several more VW's and since she has her's, I can buy and sell to my hearts delight! _________________ '56 convertible-'56 RHD hardtop original paint-'56 type 2 double door panel w/Chick Iverson logo-'63 ragtop-'79 convertible original paint(wife's car)... |

this summer i took her on a 1,250 miles trip on my '69 bug
and i presented her with this...
as you guys may have guesssed, it says "Marry me?" (in Thai)
so how could she not love the ol' faithful bug?
and last month, i came across this '64 splitty but the asking price from the owner was way above my budget.
she knew i wanted it bady so she suggested we sell her gold ring and necklace to fund it. finally, it became ours!!
she loves me enough to let me pursue my dream. i never regret a day that i choose this girl to be my wife. |

We've been married now for 17 years but we've only been married to my wife for 4 years.
My wife has never been in an aircooled dub of any sort and has her doubts about the whole thing. Having said that, she's now developed a huge hankering for a split screen bus and is quietly supportive of my Ghia addiction. Can't wait to show her what all the fuss is about!
Project Karmann is ongoing. |

| 3 years ago. Last kid out of the house. 63 bug appears in the garage. I swear I don't know how it got there, but she doesn't believe me. Played with it for a while but last summer it disappeared again. Funny thing is it found its way back to the garage again. Only now it had magically transformed into a 71 Baywindow Deluxe. Cool.... Been with my wife for 37 years now and she still doesn't believe me when I claim innocence. She thinks it due to too much pot out of an aluminum pipe. Early Alzhiemers or something like that. I tell her its probably just from huffing, oops sorry, breathing all of those fumes from all the cool primers and paints/solvents that are available to us now from the internet. Don't worry baby, I know what I'm doing.... I get that look again. She can't stand the sound of the compressor. Can't stand the sound of the grinder. Or the smell of paint. Or all the powdered rust all over the place. Or the greasy ring around the top of the washing machine tub. One time she even threatened to call the police on me, but I think she was drunk. After I stopped laughing I told her that I didn't particularly like any of that shit either. I lied that time, I do like the smell of paint. Anyways, when its all done, and back on the road, I don't think I'm going to let the Bitch ride in it. Unless I've smoked alot, alot, of pot. |

So - we got into these because of a high school friend of hers had a buggy. Bought her one and the saga began. Decided to build a VW woodie, but the project was crawling for the first 2 years, so I got a 65 type 1 as a driver - she was into that as well. Well the Woodie is getting close to completion and she is more excited about it that I am (OK, OK - minds out of the gutter). I started busting on her that she wants to drive it more than I do. No, she says, because she wants a "Max" when the Woodie is done. She has started looking already....... _________________ D-Dubya Manx clone - 63 Short pan,1776.

She knew the job was dangerous when she took it .... in actuallity she has been very supportive and at the same time acts as the voice of reason. I dont know what she saw in a guy that lived in a shop with 10 old cars and 2 dogs... We now have 3 dogs and only 5 cars and live in our home... I dont know what i was thinking or smoking before i met her |

My wife called my old bug the mistress. The squareback she is indifferent to. She has put up with me for 24 years and buys tools for every occasion. She tells me why should she care about any old VW anyhow? She works on and drives a 67 ChevyII. I still love her inspite of her Piece of SHevrolet _________________ 71 DD Squareback

| My wife is not sure yet. She thinks it's too loud, and maybe it is just a little. Her only other gripe about it so far is the safety factor. I've only had the ghia for about 2 months, and she's only ridden in it once. She sees how much I love it though and I think she will come around. |

Mine says its like "riding in a lawn mower". She doesnt hate it, but doesnt love it either.
She doesnt care about the lack of A/C.
She makes the occasional joke about it, or any of my cars.
She's also put up with my many changes in cars. Im constantly trading or selling them for something else that I simply "must have"
Went from an 86 GTI when I met her, to an 86 BMW 325e, to an 89 Jetta GLI 16v, which I sold for a 1999 mk3 Jetta. Picked up an 89 GTI 16v as a project, and ended up selling the mk3 to fund the GTI. Picked up a 73 Super Beetle to drive daily while I work on the GTI.
She puts up with A LOT!
But, Im bringing her around. Got her out of a Chevy Aveo, and into an 07 Rabbit. (She doesnt even use the a/c in that)
I love her though. She doesnt care what I do with my cars as long as I work to pay my bills. If I use my money it doesnt matter what I buy or do. She lets me use her credit card too, as long as Im the one paying the balance.
Only rule she has for me is dont cheat, and I never will.
In return, all I have to do is the routine maintenance on her Rabbit. Just did the oil and brake on it today.
I think I found me a keeper. _________________ Current - 77 MGB, 86 BMW e30 325es, 07 Rabbit (Wife's car).

Enjoying the sunshine and having a few laughs when I hear a VW bus that was running pretty rough drive by, so sort of loud I said you really should have those valves checked.
Brake lights come on and the '55 panel backs up and this beautiful young lady sticks her head out the window and asks if we know where to find Hank.
My buddy and I look at each other and laugh.
I said "it's your lucky day you found me".
She had a whole list of things she wanted done to her panel so she could go camping in two weeks.
She asked if she could help work on her VW as she wanted to learn as much as possible.
She showed me her copy of the Idiots book and the tools that came with the panel when she bought it.
I was smitten!
We worked together and being the smooth operator that I am got to go camping on that trip.
after a while we got married and toured parts of the states and Canada.
We built a house together and been together ever since - 3 kids a few dogs and many VWs later we are still together-
I still have all the VWs too
One key to a long marrage is to build a sewing room or a room for the gals to do their own thing in then you can have a shop to get away when needed.
also keep their valves adjusted and make sure to change their oil often
If it wasn't for VWs I would have never met her
Even though she now drives a Volvo station wagon she still likes driving our VW's

i did a speech one day in my debate class (we had to convince the class to buy a product, mine was the vw bug ) and after i was done the teacher says "if it wasn't for a vw bug i never would have met my husband" turns out her husbands bug broke down and he had to spend a week at her house until it got fixed cause he lived about 100 miles away
i guess bugs are really good matchmakers
my gf told me that at our wedding we have to drive away in my bug lol, out of all the cars iv owned this is the first one she actually likes |

My girlfriend is very supportive of my habit. I spent many sundays working on my beetle instead of being with her. This past Jan we were away for the weekend for our 6th anny. She knew I was interested in this bus so I made the call from our room at the inn. To top it off it was delivered on her birthday. It was 3 hours late and I almost missed dinner with her. She has gone to many shows with me. Sat all day in a field never complaining once. Even drove to VA in my bug, 8 hrs, no radio and not a peep out of her. She's a keeper... _________________ 63 T1 Ragtop Gulf Blue, Certified abortion

Her first car was a 71 or 72 Bug, when she met me I was working at a VW Shop and driving a 66 split window and a 73 Harley. We've had good times in both. Then she worked for me the whole time I had my VW Shop and could quote almost all repairs from replacing a head light to a full Resto. 28 years of Blistful Marriage later She informed me that I was not gonna have all the fun with my Ghia that she wanted a Vert. Now she has one a 71 bought off of TheSamba. Time will tell if she will get her hands dirty redoing it. I guess I got a good one. _________________ Current:74 Ghia Coupe w/ 2276

Luckily she always liked VW's. Whenever she brings up the fact that I own 24 vehicles, 11 being ACVW's, I toss back at her that she owns 3 vehicles of her own and 2 of those are VW's and that some of my time is devoted to restoring her '75 110. It's a good natured back and forth we go through. _________________ '73 Super Beetle w/ all the Sport Bug extras
