Has anyone here ever done or seen a R&P set up on a type 1 ball joint beam? I've had enough with the TRW steering boxes. I can't get the freplay out of them and the amount of slack is dangerous IMO. I've checked that there is no other movement in the connections and what I have is a lot of play in the box before the worm & roller engage no matter how much I tighten the adjusting screw or in what postion the wheel is turned when making the adjustment. I've also followed the instruction on setting the worm. |

A Super R&P is not a good choice for a regular Beetle. The steering arms on a Super are ahead of the axle, so if you mounted a SB R&P, the action of the steering wheel would be opposite. _________________

They don't use a Super Beetle steering rack, they use aftermarket or ones from other cars. _________________

I'm sure 'back in the day' they used super r&p in baja's before aftermarket r&p systems were readily avaliable. All you would have to do is mount it upside down for it to work right. _________________ Eric Allred

Makes it tough since it then moves the input over on the right side. _________________

I have seen there is a GERMAN company who makes a TÜV tested rack and pinion kit for a BJ front axle beetle. Maybe someone knows who´s making it. |

That is a brilliant design. I never thought of attaching both tie rods to one end.
Now we gotta figure out what rack they used. Or one that is suitable. _________________
