Has anyone here ever done or seen a R&P set up on a type 1 ball joint beam? I've had enough with the TRW steering boxes. I can't get the freplay out of them and the amount of slack is dangerous IMO. I've checked that there is no other movement in the connections and what I have is a lot of play in the box before the worm & roller engage no matter how much I tighten the adjusting screw or in what postion the wheel is turned when making the adjustment. I've also followed the instruction on setting the worm.

A Super R&P is not a good choice for a regular Beetle. The steering arms on a Super are ahead of the axle, so if you mounted a SB R&P, the action of the steering wheel would be opposite.

They don't use a Super Beetle steering rack, they use aftermarket or ones from other cars.

I'm sure 'back in the day' they used super r&p in baja's before aftermarket r&p systems were readily avaliable. All you would have to do is mount it upside down for it to work right.

Makes it tough since it then moves the input over on the right side.

I have seen there is a GERMAN company who makes a TÜV tested rack and pinion kit for a BJ front axle beetle. Maybe someone knows who´s making it.

That is a brilliant design. I never thought of attaching both tie rods to one end.

Now we gotta figure out what rack they used. Or one that is suitable.
