Back in my old West Africa Peace Corps daze we would ride two up with two bags for 100 miles via Paris-Dakar routes on trashed motobecane mopeds. Never once stranded. |

well i guess i can post in this thread now
mother-in-law gave me this sears "free spirit" moped.
from what i have looked up it might be a 78 - http://www.mopedarmy.com/photos/brand/139/2207/
it has been sitting for a while and is not running.
i figure it is small enuff to haul in the westy, and to putt around on at bigger shows |
Nice score, the run a Puch engine by bombardier, if you need any parts for it it is easy to find Puch parts, and there is lots of performance stuff for the Puch |
thanks ... good to know i will be able to find parts for this moped.
do you have any websites you would suggest i visit for info and parts? |

I'm starting to get little wafts of bus stink coming from the north. Something about the unique scent of drivers seat padding when it's glued together with mouse piss and shit that really gets me going... and I'm smelling it! Oh yeah! Time to start loading up the equipment. |

Bump for mopeds
Built this bike 2 years back
This one used to be a moped... bought it from crukab in pretty rough shape and decided to put a 140cc 4 stroke 4 speed motor on it.
This years project is a beat up old Honda Hobbit that's been a pile of parts in my garage for a few years now. It's gonna stay beat up looking, but the engine and sub frame are being greatly upgraded.

Just starting to see what mopeders see in thier bikes. After some research, we decided to go with an old 1978 Honda NC50. Got some crazy plans for it. Didnt take but 5 tools and 23 minutes to strip it down. Got another NC50 that runs for the drivetrain.
This will be our summer 2013 outdoor project when we are taking a smoke break.

I have two NSU Quickly mopeds. Here's as I bought them:
And here's after I restored them (I put them into a motorcycle show just for laughs).
(ignore the seats. I've got new covers for them now)
Then I've got their older brother, a 1949 NSU Quick. It's a moped, too, but 98cc instead of 49cc for the Quickly. The Quickly is faster and whole lot more fun to ride though:
Here's that one when I bought it:
I've got stupid amounts of money in all 3 of them, but they're a lot of fun. |

Weird, I kind of had a falling out with Vws a couple years ago, and used mopeds to fill in my time. I have several now. Funny this is the third thread I've seen since logging in for the first time in 2 years.
2 Vespa Ciaos
2 Vespa Grandes
A Vespa Bravo
83 Honda Hobbit
And a slew of Nopeds and 50cc motorcycles.
If anyone else is on MopedArmy, I'm ScrapyardJunkie over there. _________________ (O\U|U/O) Top Vw (o\UU/o) |

So exciting! My 16 yr old son took my old moped to his small engine class at school and got it running again! It's been at least 27 yrs since it last ran correctly--it still needs a few little tweaks but it runs and we got to take it for a spin this morning! It sounds so nice! Smells good too lol. He is pretty happy with himself cleaning out the tank, carb, adjusting the dimoby clutch and regapping the plug------good work! |

Above from my previous post when it was stored in my parent's basement.
Below after I brought it home last fall for my son to clean up, along with a bunch of my late dad's tools and stuff, after the family home sold.
I'll add a more recent shot later. |
