good morning all! still on the hunt for my bus and one was listed here last week that sounds like some samba folks might have checked out... or that's what i'm hoping Smile

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1757111

seems like it is in pretty good shape, however, some recent "major" engine work was/is in order... sounds like that has been worked out. haven't talked to the guy yet, just some emails.

does anyone have any opinions and/or knowledge about this one?

peace!

For 11,500 I wouldn't want to have to buy and install a turn signal lens. Hell, for 11,500 I wouldn't want a bus with a dent by the rear wheel. Seems dry though. As a personal general rule, I never spend more than 10k on any car, esxpecially one that will probably still need a little bit of work.

Just from the pictures that one is way over priced in my opinion. Honestly I think it's worth about half that. And only if there are no major surprises under that re-spray. And, what's the interior look like? From that front shot it doesn't even look like a complete Westy interior is there. I'd wait it out, or move on if I were you. For $11.5k you can do much better.

three things:

not a camper, not worth 11,500

the dent, and the imperfect body, not worth 11,500

the exhaust screams i have no idea what i am doing with a bus and i like to intoxicate myself while driving, meaning you should question all other engine work purely based on the lack of knowledge. not worth 11,500.

so... if i'm understanding you correctly... not worth the money he's asking Smile

thanks for the feedback... something i need obviously! i didn't even notice the exhaust. which lead me to find http://www.ratwell.com/technical/FAQ/FAQContent.html#0304 ... now i know a bit more about the exhaust Smile what is not immediately apparent though, what is unsafe about what you can see?

thanks again!

I don't think there is anything unsafe about it. I have the same exhaust on my bus (installed by the PO). While it's not ideal, I've had no issues with it and don't notice any exhaust fumes in the cab while driving or stopped. Maybe some do? I do plan on going back to stock at some point. It does look a bit "cheesy" to the more "sophisticated" bus owner. Razz

Hey Stu, looks like a camper from where I sit. Has a poptop, and though there are no interior pics, the ad says it was working camper stuff.

Body looks really dry. The dent isn't good, but the rest of the bus is straight.

I don't know shit about late bay engine stuff, but what do you guys figure would be a fair price for this bus. I'm not shopping, I am just curious.

The ad could certainly be more informative for the asking price.

Not to mention the tires are probably wrong and the wrong size engine and the ugly tire carrier.

now this is a good deal compared to what I pay for mine they came from some podunk little town in Texas called Bogata I paid 3000 for mine + $900 for shipping 1500 on the rebuilt motor I still have to replace the wheel bearings rear and has got rust on the floor

all in all right now I'm about 5800 into it and this one for 2200 is it steal.

in fact I would buy it and try to get rid of mine which is a 69 Bay

Picked up a 1976 Type II Bus yesterday for $500. Needs a crankshaft and a flywheel to get up and running. Has a brand new clutch and carburetor. Looking for some help on where to find a good crankshaft and flywheel for a decent price.

At walmart today i found Royal Purple 0-w20 for the wife's crv marked down to $5.00/ quart, but rang up at $3.00 each! Bought them all! Pretty sure some of the Suby engines also use 0-20

Ad says "All original paint, interior, little rust on chrome and top. Manuel Transmission, Had a complete brake job done since i've owned it. Newer heater core, am willing to work on price. "

I just want to know how they installed that Smile
