You took way too much metal out of your so called washers. They bent right where there was the least amount of plate. Use some penetrant on the wheel also.

Well my "so called washers" worked, I had to align them better but the steering weel came off this morning. Now I need a lock housing to replace this old one, and I have had zero luck finding one. I found newer bus ones and old bus ones, but none like this. Confused

Good to hear it finally worked, I agree on the over relief of the washers, sometimes they are stuck like a Mofo as you discovered, hope you kept all the chunks to glue back in to the wheel hub.
For the lock contact Steelersbus or Gabvwkey, both have ads in the classifieds.

The real deal washers are 3.5" and that is not always easy to find, but Fastenal is a good place to try or a Fleet supply something like that, maybe Lowes. I made mine.

Well it is a 1971 bus igniton lock housing, I am not sure if it is usable now because 2 very small springs fell out that were mashed up. I don't want to put everything back together if this part is no good. so I though a new one would be a easy fix but noone has them. Do you know if mine will work still? (if you look close at that picture, the tiny sprigs were like the one at the bottom center of that pic, it's a tiny spring that was all distorted.

I'll bet Busdaddy could tell you how to take springs out of a ball point pen and fix that steering lock.

When you go to paint your re-done steering wheel, urethane paint is the only stuff that will hold up. The paint is pricey, by the time you add up all your supplies, the repro wheel will compare.

You could use another kind of paint and then wrap the wheel with one of those leather wheel wraps as a compromise.

do you know if those springs came from the locking mechanism or the key part? I have those parts I think I can part with some.

Here is a pic of where the spring came from. It may have been one spring broken in two. It came from that small round mark area on the lock pin part I am holding in the pic.

You can see why the keyboard is all dirty. Must be alot of searching for info on how to work on ACVW's. No time to stop and clean.

I'm sure there's a little bit of internet porn involved too.
