Believe it or not, I actually have my own Ghia project now. In the past few months I've been working on a 1972 Super I picked up for a song, and once it's on the road this is most likely the next project for me. The best part of the deal is that it's a 1969 -- the year I was born. The deal included a nice drill press, a never used tap & die set, a 4'x8' piece of sheet steel, and a complete engine rebuild kit (jugs, pistons, valves) and a lot of misc parts. The nose has basically been sculpted from bondo, so I plan on clipping a nose from a parts car of mine for the nose as well as the engine bay sheet metal from another, not to mention the floorpans from yet *another* spare pan I have. I'm literally my own parts warehouse now. I haven't decided how close to original to make it.

That's what I'm talking about, the barter system is alive and well!
For a split second when I first saw this pic I thought, "wow you've got a hell of a rust problem, I can see the whole engine..."

| Looks like a sweet project car. IMO '69 is the best year to have if you can't get a lowlight. |

You forgot Orange Which I still hope to find someday.
Heck, I have all of the parts and pieces that I could convert this car to an Autostick And, I may just do that. _________________ Friends don't let friends own Fatchicks. |

68-69 were always my favorite years... newer style door handles, fuel lid, IRS, 12v, and older body style. Looks like you have some hacking ahead of you. Take lots of pics. Good score. _________________ -72 Ghia-

I will *not* hack! Part of the reason I have that piece of sheet steel is that the PO was going to make some panels for it. I've been studying John Kelly's DVD's and I have the book The Key to Metal Bumping. I spend a lot of time on the metal shapers' site as well to gain insight and understanding. The moment I realized that the best engine bay sheet metal I have is from a 1968 Autostick I figured I might as well convert it.
You know I'll take a lot of pictures. _________________ Friends don't let friends own Fatchicks. |

Well, I've been tearing down the engine so I can send the carb to keifernet to be rebuilt and have pulled scads of twigs, acorn bits, and assorted bits of grass from almost every spot. The distributor wires were chewed through as well.
I've been toying with the idea of installing a Type 4 FI engine that I have in this car; however, I think it's a Bus and not a 914 engine.
Once I get my Super on the road then this car goes into the garage for teardown and buildup. I'll do updates then. _________________ Friends don't let friends own Fatchicks. |

We should expect the updates around 2015.
You should work on the ghia and put the Super on the back burner.
Good luck with the project, Gary. _________________ AnimalsInTheAttic-Denver |
