Replaced the gas tank filler and vent hoses.
I got my parts from Wolfsburg West today.
The original vent hose was fabric covered like breather hose. The new stuff is exposed rubber with no covering. The original filler hose had a fabric cover and the new is exposed rubber. It's also longer so I had to cut 2" off it. I carefully cut of the old "crimped" clamps and removed the old hose being careful not to break the plastic Tee's... they can be brittle after 40 years.
The new hoses were the correct metric size and slit on the fittings with ease, after spraying some Simple Green as a lubricant. I also replace the small vent hose that runs from the expansion tank to the other side of the gas tank.
All in all the job was easy and the parts fit as they should, even though they are the original appearance.
Tomorrow i'll take it to the gas station and fill the tank to just below full and see if it leaks. Then i'll fill it the reset as a final test. If it does leak, i'll replace the tank... I have another ready to be installed.
This might be why it leaked.

| welded up the luggage area. had excessive noise from that area. when i removed the carpet i found out that the piece of sheet metal that was welded in place of the original body panel was only welded along the back. i was very glad that the sheet metal was 18 gauge though. all i had to do was trim it up a little and weld 3 sides. after that i covered it with dynamat xtreme.... i had a hard time at first getting the release liner off of the dynamat, (anyone else run into that problem) which in turn almost caused me to ball it up and punch it in a fit of rage, but that stuff is expensive. noticed a big difference in sub performance and reduction of engine noise. |

This didn't happen today because when I tried to post from my "mobile device", I couldn't :\
Yesterday, I was rewarded with The FWEEM!!! I heard it under light acceleration as I turned onto one of the neighborhood streets. I used to think the Harley potato-potato-potato was cool, it's got nothin' on the Fweem.
I've spent quite a bit of time sorting out my new (March, 2012) car...
sugar out of fuel system
brakes working - rebuilt master cylinder (i sneakely replaced the worn out OG seals with the seals out of the rebuild), front wheel cylinders cleaned
clutch replaced
rear main replaced
some blood spatter
heads cleaned, valves ground
interior cleanup
electrical cleanup (all lights now work, currently the horn is not but should soon be soon)
couple new tires
some cussing
some new rubber bits
trunk latch handle cut off twice, maybe three times (I'm accurate enough now so that I don't cut into the button)
cv boots on one side replaced, other this weekend give or take
learning to deal with worn synchronizers in second
H30/31 set up as of yesterday (had previously rebuilt a 34/3 but the throttle shaft is worn so bad (bushings replaced...) that it still sucks so much air it won't run low speed or tune)
much of the information I have learned has come from this site... thank you all I do have the Bentley Manual, the wall-of-words-Muir book, and the Bill Fisher How to hotrod book. _________________ '71 SB - 08/1970

Replaced the bent up drain plate on my deep sump.
Then installed Heavy duty coilovers on the rear so i don't bottom out and snag my deep sump. Again _________________ 1973 SB 1776cc

Figured out my 71 SB was built on Thursday Sep 9th 1970 according to production plate. A bit of a surprise as I thought it was built in August based on the door jamb sticker, but when it was made they did not have the numbers aligned properly!

Finally got my battery completely recharged. Last week I parked the 'vert on Tuesday after driving in the rain and.........didn't turn the headlights off until Friday morning. Was driving the Titan Wednesday and Thursday. Battery was dead as a doornail. Got a charge on it Sunday and took it to my local FLAPS to have the battery tested. They said it was good, just needed charging. So home and onto the trickle charger. Took a couple of days but the "charged" LED on the charger finally came on. Car started fine yesterday with the voltmeter reading 12.5 before I started it. Still driving the Titan as it's 95 degrees with 95% humidity here. Plan on enjoying the 'vert this weekend, weather permitting. _________________ I'm not losing my hair, it's just retired and relocating further south.

Received and inspected the absolutely incredibly complete front door seal kit from West Coast Metric:
https://shop.westcoastmetric.com/viewProduct.php?productID=113-0669
Way expensive, but seems to have EVERYTHING and it all seems to be very good quality and packed very well.
It will be awesome to have the doors seal perfectly! |

In the middle of complete teardown of 73 standard in preparation for media blasting body and body off build. Dreading the dash and trunk area since all of my other stuff is much older (61, 65 and I even backdated my 69 to 65 specs) so first time with fresh air box and new style fuse box. _________________ D-Dubya Manx clone - 63 Short pan,1776.

Rufus and Jethro came over and helped us rig up a hoist for the body, then we got the body separated from the pan, for the most part:

It's gotta be a red Beetle syndrome, that would be I think the third red Beetle like that I've seen on here in the last couple of months
I've just finished botching my Kamei spoiler back together.
It split a few weeks back after I KO'd a bandicoot one night.
Poor bug looked naked without it. |

Are you actually in Mexico? I've been wondering if it's possible to get a Mexican plate with my US license plate numbers on it (specifically from Puebla, what with the factory and all).
I've been thinking about getting that emblem, too. It almost seems too modern for the car, but I do like it. If it weren't $50-60 I'd have pulled the trigger.
Anyway, I finished up my sound deadening/carpeting installation and took the car for a drive to measure sound levels. Reduction achieved. Could be better, but I'll deal
