Motor drop didn't go as planned today, but I did replace the trunk latches. Now I can open the "trunk" from outside the car, and not have to use vice-grips locked onto the latch cable.
Also tightened up the E-brakes, still having a hard time with those damn drum brakes.
Last, but not least... Did this. I really, really disliked the stock battery location. To far away from the fuse block, and under a seat with metal rods and springs, a potential short and fire waiting to happen. I don't ever plan on using the rear space behind the rear seat for cargo space, so the battery and fuse block will go on the left side, a 10" sub and amp, on the right (eventually). Battery will sit in a tray of angle iron, which will be bolted to some 1/4" plate tabs welded to the floor. ATO fuses are easy to find, and can be used across multiple-vehicles, (a plus for me). This is just mock up for now, battery position may move.

It's been a long winter. Finally got the battery charged and added fresh fuel. Going to fire her up shortly, first time since Fall. _________________ 1968 Beetle project |

Picked up super street tranny from Strictly Foreign. Pulled current tyranny .
PSA: remember, alway disconnect the tranny from shift coupler under the seat. The more you know.
Swapping all the mounts, straps, and ground strap, etc, cleaned all the oil off the rear tyranny mount - replaced the leaky main seal earler.
Was grateful the bolts for the cv joints behaved themselves.
Cut access ports in the rear wheel wells to have better access to the carbs.
Two weeks up and running? Let's hope. _________________ 74 1303 (RevBug): plan for German Look

Installed a few crappy parts from cip1. A "top quality" antenna that was a pos. a nice looking oil pressure sender. a good trunk latch. and nice set of lap belts. I had ordered some lock pulls and only got the collar that goes in the door. they did not send the actual pull part. Will not order from them again. and fixed my lights...again. spent most of the day looking for 11 inch wipers and a horn. hope to pass safety inspection later this week and make it my daily driver. cant wait. it has been over 6 years that I have not drove a bug daily. |

(I'm brand new, by the way, hello)
I ripped off the top & headliner down to the frame, and put the window in my living room.
Now to actually get it running and on the road... |

For your wipers, go buy a good 24" wiper blade refill and cut it in half with a pair of side cutters (measure first, 24" are actually like 23"). Keep your old housing and install the newly cut refills in the old arms. I did this years ago and saved me a lot of time and money finding 11" blades. Good luck getting your car inspected... _________________ Stupid people do stupid things. |

Well it passed inspection yesterday! Now it's my daily driver. If I would have had old wipers to rebuild I would have done that's that's a good idea. Thanks! |

I installed new speakers in the rear and two new smaller ones in the front doors. Tomorrow i will tidy up wiring and vacuum the carpets and install all seats. Then, if the sun is shining i will go for a whiz around with the roof down, radio on! |

It's almost summer, so naturally I am working on the heater and defrost tubing so I can make the car hotter

went for spin, goes nice, stereo sounds great from 4 speakers now!
Finding it hard to tune carb as per instructions on resource. I think it may have an air leak somewhere, not sure how old carb is but maybe time for a new one? Might try the rev and hand over throat trick to see if it clears itself. So frustrating when the end is in sight..... |

Started cleaning it out. Going to start working on running the wiring today from the motor to the fuse block for now. then from the front end to the fuse block. |

I put my finger through the back seat left floor pan. Just wanted to see that happen before I replace them. I was mildly amused. Also tried to start it again, no dice. Thank goodness she's going to the hospital on Monday. |
