Decided I want to paint something on my ride. This paint job has got me in so much trouble in the local VW community.

Car looks great, I like the color, but I'd do is lose the tuner stickers in the rear windows and the luggage rack. The car looks clean, slick and fast, the rack slows it down. Racks look cool on stock accessory whores but on a lowered hot rod, they look out of place. Like a sprinter wearing a baseball cap with the bill flipped up.

Also, whats with the salad bowl on the rear bumper?

Thanks, the salad bowl is a 7 inch stop light. It has been removed since I got rear ended. The turner stickers are gone and I put a lot of work into that rack so I think I will keep it on.

Traced down a short in the #1 fuse circuit of my '72 Super - burning out when I turned on the parking lights, flashers, or right-turn rear blinker. Turns out the wires had come loose from the license plate light, shorting out the blue/white wire and fusing it to the ground wire.

Change the oil to 10-30w VR1 synthetic racing, it sounds happier?

Checked all systems and lights and went for a cruzzzzz. 103* now, no AC, so I came back home. Smile

I moved the fuel filter OUT of the engine compartment and adjusted the valves. Now I'm just waiting on a new fuel pressure regulator to arrive.

We'll I had my 1600 super towed to eurofix in Nashville. The valve spring cap fell off and rattled inside valve cover while the pushrods banged up and down, what a loud noise, brass shavings inside valve cover. Waiting on if it's wrecked the piston, case,??
So head job? Or new engine? Will see
Any suggestions on a new 1600 engine to buy from? Tried to find vw darrin since liked his "the 1600 runs" video on you tube. Shocked

car was handling funny since its last service so I checked tyre pressure and had to take 0.5 bars out from the front ones to bring them in spec. Clearly the shop guy didn't bother to check the correct pressures in the fuel flap and just inflated all four the same... Shame on you

on a lighter note, my wife bought me a new "little tree" air freshner, and now my interior smells of aftershave. Cool

My daughter and I bled the brakes. Then, on the test drive, the car stopped each time we pressed down on the brake pedal!!!

Last weekend: Dropped the engine aand replaced the main seal and oil cooler seals. Replaced the crappy Chinese master cylinder I installed last year with OEM quality, and installed new rear shocks. I bought the offroad coilovers to add a couple inches and allow for the driving I do on dirt and gravel roads.
Next weekend will be putting the engine back, replacing the front struts, and jacking the front end up a bit to save the old girl the humiliation of having been lowered by some dingus PO. I'm hoping I can fix the 2" she was dropped and even add 2" over stock. These were built as incredibly versatile and utilitarian cars that can go anywhere in any condition, and I wanna ensure this old girl can join me (without the current scrapes and rubs) when I have to follow tanks into the field for work.

Bondo and painted flooring, trying to finish rewiring with new harness, need to flush the tranny and somehow find m7x1.25 bolts for the lid, trade in busted engine for rebuilt ($1200), sound deadening, carpet...almost there

Shorted the battery after only three days of owning my 72 Beetle. Received John Muir's book in the mail today so I coloured the engine to learn it's parts. Tonight I will flip to the chapter dedicated to "My Bug Won't Start" and hopefully come up with some sort of solution as to why the safetied and certified 72 Beetle will not turn on.

*shrug* I know next to nothing about cars, but I suppose this was why I bought the car … to learn about cars.

Question
