Got ready to remove the fuel tank. Took off the filler cap and set it on the hood. Left to get some old shop rags and returned. I lifted the hood and un bolted the tank.
I began to wonder where my filler cap went. I looked up and my winshild was cracked!!!
I couldn't belive I did that. ugh. nother thing I gotta fix. |
Haven't done that... yet, but I've had more than my fair share of unintended consequences. Slamming my hood closed without having hooked up the release cable comes to mind. |

Replace the idler arm bushing on my '72 super. No more shimmie between 40-50 mph!
Ended up having to take it to a tire shop to get it pressed in all the way. The frame of the harbor freight 6 ton press bent while trying to press it in. _________________ Eventually, "we are what we pretend to be.

Yesterday, replaced the red urethane inner control arm bushing w/original factory style rubber ones. Found a local machine shop to press them in. _________________ Eventually, "we are what we pretend to be.

Had the front end aligned by a local shop after replacing various bushings and the center tie rod. _________________ Eventually, "we are what we pretend to be.

KYB GasAdjust shocks, shifter bushing, short throw shift kit (the $8 spacer from ACN), fixed the throttle cable so the ferrule didn't catch on the carb limiting movement to about 1/2 throttle.
All in all, a very productive weekend. car is MUCH more fun to drive now. _________________ -Russell

This is my first message on the forum, so I'd like to introduce myself.
Like 3 weeks ago I bought my very first car, a blue 1973 Mex Beetle, equipped with a brazilian engine; It's "name" or so to say, it's Benny the Ball (yes, like the one from Top Cat) .
I'm just learning how to drive, so I haven't moved my bug so far away from the neighbourhood. Today I cleaned some parts, like the ashtray (re-drew the gearbox diagram that had faded over the time) and an old (and original) steering wheel I bought for Benny, because the one the last owner installed it's too small (I don't like racing beetles, hehehe) and I feel I'll lose control more easily. So I cleaned those parts and installed them, following my plan to personalize Benny as I feel it should look before I learn how to drive properly and dare to drive Benny from one edge to the city to the other.
Oh, and I removed rust and old paint (sanded) from a pair of seatbelt brackets I bought secondhand, and painted them flat black; the previous owner did not have seatbelts installed, and, of course, safety is one of my concerns. _________________ 1973 Mex Beetle

Supers were never manufactured in Mexico. if your Benny is a super, is not mexican; if it's mexican, is not a super. _________________ cars:

Had the wife help me install a new seal on my rear window. She was a lot of help and the west coast metric seal I put in was very easy to work with. _________________ Previous - 73 1303

I put new intake boots on and put on new clamps where my header connects to the heater boxes. Doing this has gotten rid of my random backfires and pops it used to have. Also seems to have better throttle response. |

Took apart my fresh air box and cleaned it up and went through it. It works great now and doesn't squeal like it used to. Used the video from Pat(66foot) as a guide. Went flawlessly because of that vid.
Torn apart in the kitchen
