sat on my ass in the driveway with a beer in my hand wondering why the front of my bug is 11 !/2 inches off the ground with 165/85/15, without an adjustable beam I get that the rear was raised with the torsion bars 12 1/2 but how the hell did the front get this high ? |

More like over the weekend, but continue break down of the 1600 engine. Flywheel off. Crank and Cam out. Pulled the 10mm studs. Bagged and label everything.
Then the best part of all of this is when the fuel flange broke off inside the case. Luckily I had the case opened. But even a threaded bolt would not pull it out. Had to chip away with a flat blade to get it cleared. _________________ Buddy (72 Super) project

Took the bug out for the first real "dust off" today.
Drove about 30 miles round trip, to my son's first soccer road game of the season.
Had the top down, and the tunes cranked, oh yeah, it's been a long cold winter !
Had a little shimmy in the front at highway speed, that wasn't there in the fall.
I think the tires might have a little flat spot from sitting unmoved all winter, hopefully it gets better as I drive it more !
So glad to have all that damn snow gone at last !!

If someone says you can't rewind the spring in the seat belt doohickey, don't believe them. Although it is better just to leave that little side plate alone, ask me how I know |

Put front blinkers on. Got a cool little amp w/ speakers off amazon, meant for street bikes. Loud & clear, plugs into the ipod and radio! Also tool box, so much better than stashing a bag behind the seat.

An the hood still fits

Replaced the drivers rear wheel cylinder, it had a broken bleeder and was seized solid and got the frozen adjusters working.
Next step is master cylinder and with any luck I'll have brakes. _________________ My Stable: 65 Mustang Fastback, 88 Lebaron GTC Convertible, 01 Sebring Convertible, 09 HHR SS (325whp,400wtq), 92 Harley Heritage Softail And my 1st Bug a 73. |

Not today, but last weekend. Painted the pan and removed the black paint from the Empi wheels. Going to paint them orange to match my car.

I put on a new heater cable that controls the flaps under the rear seat. Also pulled my seats out and took out my old nasty carpet and vacuumed up all the crap underneath.

Also replaced my shifter bushing and shift coupler. My god what a difference that made. Feels like the shifter in a 2015 car now. |

Replaced the engine compartment seal today. Surprisingly, installing the new one was not very difficult. I did end up using the soapy water strategy. What did take forever and took skin off my hands was getting the old one out. Should be a happier engine now. Next up is lowering the rear |

Fixed the e-brake lever, replaced the driver side window regulator (pain in the ass by the way) and took off the stock exhaust. I was hoping to replace it but realized the replacement I bought had a connection for a single heat riser. Learning new shit every day. |

- Installed new 14 inch wheel with 3.5inch dish so my fingers don't get caught on the signal and wiper controls
- put rotors and drums back on
- put battery on tender
- mounted two back tires on centerline rims (other two are still in shop getting the holes drilled properly)
- sprayed new steel in fender wells with rock guard
- took valve covers off, hit them with a wire wheel, then acetone, then rust prohibitor, then black paint
- while they were drying and valves were exposed, I went around and set the valves to .06 on the feeler gauge
- drained the oil
- took out the tea strainer, cleaned all the parts with brake cleaner
- reinstalled strainer, new gaskets
- by this time the valve covers were dry, reinstalled them with new gaskets also
- topped up with new oil with added zinc
- stored the old oil because I plan to build an oil burning stove for the garage for next winter - cleaned out the plastic bucket I used to capture the oil with brake cleaner. Makes the oil run free and its also combustible so it too will get burned.
....but I dunno how long 2.5 litres of oil will last. _________________ 1990 911 Porsche C2 (964) - Sold

New to the forum so finding others with the same illness that I've had for 20 years is nice. Today I cleaned my '73 standard (soon to be daily driver) bug and let my little boys pretend to drive my '65 (true love but don't tell my wife) sedan. Got to make sure the VW illness continues on. |

Wrapped up the brakes.
All new from the master back, replaced everything(front disc were all good). Adjusted and bled and they feel great. _________________ My Stable: 65 Mustang Fastback, 88 Lebaron GTC Convertible, 01 Sebring Convertible, 09 HHR SS (325whp,400wtq), 92 Harley Heritage Softail And my 1st Bug a 73. |

Today I put in a high volume oil pump. I partially disassembled the motor after a hack mechanic put it back together. I have found more stuff loose or falling off, like my valve train...
Tomorrow I am going to try to finish tightening stuff up and pray that nothing goes "SNAP"!!! Then I will get the engine back in the car and continue to pray this thing hasn't eaten a part. |

A wise man once told me to make it stop, make it go, make it pretty. The stopping part is good tho I hope one day to do the disc conversion. The go part is getting better. So today I did the make her pretty. Yanked out the old carpet behind the back seat. Shop vac every nook and cranny. Scrubbed the interior with hot water and pinesol. Cleaned the windows. Then for gits and shiggles I used the kitchen sponge and soapy water on the outside, doing small areas then wiping with a towel before it dryed. That took off all the white haze and black spots!! Well she may not be road ready but she sure looks good!
