Started prepping for the new window seals and windshield arriving Wednesday, finally got the case studs out to split it and check it out, sent the jugs out to be honed, cleaned out and rebuilt the oil pump and other full flow pieces, checked over all the tins, began checking all the wiring to see if the condition warrants replacement. _________________ 1994 Lexus LS400 supercharged (sold)

I signed her up for TheSamba, so there's that..
1974 Super, haven't done much since I got her.. rebuilt carb, new tranny mounts, battery, some hoses and wiring. Looking for tires and a lower front end, and to fix the shimmy at 40mph. Took her out for a cruise a bath, ordered a muffler so I can get her to pass emissions. The fan shroud also rattles, so I gotta find out why.
Looking forward to learning lots on here and hopefully meeting some VW enthusiasts in Utah! My first one was a '73 about two decades ago. She also has some bubbling under the paint by the rear windows, so a new paintjob may be in order this summer. Too many options to think of when browsing this dang site!

Bought one tonight! 73 Super, orange. I'll post some pics when it's daylight tomorrow.
My first car was a 71 beetle, also owned a 66 campmobile and a couple of 84 vanagons once upon a time. Felt good to be driving a bug again, it's been too long. _________________ '84 Vanagon GL

My dad broke a couple wrenches trying to get the wheel bearings off so we can get them resurfaced! He finally got it off though (i'm too small to do it myself) then we figured out that the emergency brake handle is broke but everything else in that department is working fine, so that's good news. _________________ 1972 VW Super Beetle |

Over the last couple of days....
- replaced the centerlink tie rod on my '72 Super w/a known good original VW one - yep, at least 42 y/o and better than the "new" POS I installed from JBugs about 7 months ago.
- And replaced the soft fuel line coming out of the gas tank. _________________ Eventually, "we are what we pretend to be.’”

Adjusted the brakes and clutch, set the valves, checked the timing, and installed the stereo. Still waiting for my kick panels to get here. |

Bill - the next time I get to Phoenix to visit my sister in Chandler, I've got to take a detour to see your Bug in person. I want to hear how a bone-stock/factory correct engine sounds. How on earth do you keep it so clean?? Can't possibly be a daily driver.

Overhauled and cleaned up my door panels and hardware. Much smoother overall and easier window crank. _________________ "That's a liberal hippie mobile right there..."

Sure, sounds like a plan. Send me a PM next time you're in Chandler. I'm only 15 minutes from there.
And you're right, it's not a daily driver. I did just drive it 120 miles today crossing Phoenix to visit friends. It only gets a couple thousands miles a year put on it. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

Got the idle shut off problem fixed, turned out to be a bad gasket. Fixed signal light problem, and door closing problem.
Have a question though. Want to put an electric fuel pump on my car because the next motor is an AJ case, want to know where on the fuse panel can I hook it to, so when I turn the key on the pump comes on?

Removed the old padded dash. So satisfying. Now gotta cover/fill holes, get a late ash tray and glove box and shorter knobs. Gonna cover the middle vent hole with a VW badge found on the back of a vanagen at the junk yard |

Replaced the royally screwed up Chinese 009 with a better German 009 I had laying around, did the 3k mile tune up on the car, all the issues are now gone. _________________ 1969 Beetle 1600 DP (Daily Driver)

this is what I began with. I think this is the original carpet, it was held in by "nails"
Pulled the carpet back
Made a pattern from cardboard
cut some 1/4" oak plywood to match the pattern
Beveled the edges of the plywood
did a mirror image duplicate for the drivers side
glued in some rubber to keep the magnet from touching the metal body
installed it with 4 screws (painted the top because my carpet didn't go all the way up
And, there you have it. Not "show quality" but it works.
Maybe new carpet one day will cover the wood altogether. But, this is a 2nd owner with only 65,000 orig miles, orig paint, and looks like orig carpet |
