Valves adjusted and oil changed after 300 (more like 425) miles on rebuilt engine. Idle returned after that.
Replaced the spot where the radio used to be with a new USB/BT one so the kid can charge his phone (and not hear so much from the back.) It was kinda cool when I synched my phone and hit Pandora, and the Eagles Hotel California is the first music out of the new system |

Installed LED headlights, and LED illumination on the speedo. We can see again!
Putting the LED bulb in the license plate, found out nobody taped that lens off before painting and it's all green. Getting a new lens and gasket today, since the lens holes are cracked anyways. |

Dropped the engine and replaced the oil cooler seals. That fixed my massive oil leak. Next I did the heater cables, and fixed the two shorts in the back up light circuit. Now they work. Changed the oil.

Ripped out all the old insulation boards around the luggage compartment, scraped and brushed it clean, then lined it all with QuickRoof as sound deadener. Also makes for easier clean up. My son says it's a lot quieter, and he can actually hear music from the speakers |

My first beetle
My first time pulling an engine.
Went pretty well except for when the latch opened and subsequently the valve cover fell off. That and missing the trolley were the only hiccups. Would be so much easier if I had a 2nd pair of hands. |

I walked by it....it's got the day off, somebody with a shovel cut a bunch of my sprinkler pvc pipe's so...I had to do a pile of yard work today patching diging, trenching, cutting, glueing filling testing, digging fixing. it's amazing my yard is over 90 feet wide and more than that deep and I think every dam pipe was cut......in multiple places....I may need to throw away that defective shovel.... the sites must be off....or it's a pipe detector in disguize.. atleast the pvc glue wasent dried up...and smelled good too I hope to give the bug a good work out tomarow as usually done everyday. |

I crawled under it to put a sponge in the oil cooler outlet, I had a look around and saw one oil drip forming from a rocker stud.....thats all. everything else was dry.I wonder now if it has any oil in it it's full.not bad for about 80000 miles.hard fun miles with 5-20 synthetic oil. |
