I have my motor pulled to replace alternator (Thing)-I want to check my valve guides and springs-I think I can pull the springs by pumping compressed air into the cylinder to hold the valves. Will I be able to check valve guides without pulling heads? How could I check the springs once they are removed? The motor seemed to have more valvetrain noise than usual when it was running-also getting a little bit of oil residue on the carb butterfly-leakdown test showed 6% leakage from all cylinders. This motor has about 3000 miles (approx.) Thanks for any help you can provide.

You can check the guides by putting each valve at TDC and see if the top of the spring can be moved sideways. Or remove the springs and then check the valve for movement.
