I have a 2000cc FI bus motor in my '77.

The distributor I have in my motor now is a crappy, too big of a distributor... make sense? Well the thing is so big that its rubbing up against my cold start valve and totally chewed up my insulation on the wires, no it didn't burn them. Its just so tight of a fit when I put it in it ripped the wire insulation.

Anyway, the old distributor is a single vacuum advanced JFU-4 0231 170 093 VW#022 905 205 s
it fit perfectly in the spot and it never interfered with anything.
The lobes are not all the same... if I adjust the points per bentley all the gaps are different on each lobe.

Now where can I get the old distributor rebuilt or find a good used one? Or what can I get one that could interchange? Or in other words which distributor do you have on your fi motors?

Distributor size is not nearly as important as distributor number, the old 205s was the correct one for your engine, what's the # on the new crappy one?
All distributors are the same dimensions externally, maybe you need to turn it 90 degrees, move all the plug wires one hole over and retime it.
