If that piece is falling apart on so many CA. buses then every westy cabinet handle and plastic piece in them is for sure garbage too, as the filler tube is mostly protected from any uv light.... wierd

For a couple bucks you can get almost the same thing in the plumbing department at Home Depot. Sink drain.

I restored a '70 Montana Red Westy last year and took it to Bug Jam. Everything in the interior was 100% correct and new or like new. The ONLY thing not correct was the water fill cap. I spent literally three months trying to find one and finally found something that fit but wasn't original VW. I went to the swap area and after a few minutes spied a half dozen in a pile, but quickly realized a woman had them in her plie of stuff she was buying. Then I recognized her and her husband, a British couple who had been to my house to look at a '69 Westy about a year earlier. I asked if she was buying all the caps and she replied that she was. I said that I needed one for my camper. She said" Oh, you have the red camper right? Yes we saw that you needed one." I said can I buy one of those from you, to which she simply said "No" , then picked up her stuff and walked away. Now I know why, if they're worth $70 over there. Holy s#*t. I got one somewhere else for $10.

Apparently it just wont start, could be super simple to fix....but it looks in good shape....might be worth it...

If motor is junk then maybe not....

i thought the same thing. if hes willing to let you look it over before you purchase, and you can figure out whats wrong, then it would be fair depending on whats broken...

Yea, why would anyone want to throw away $2,500 for a real nice looking bus when you could spend $7,000 to patch up a total rust bucket turd and then a few more thousand to get it looking decent? Just doesn't make any sense at all.
Doesn't start? So what. I'd never have any confidence in someone elses engine whether it runs or not. Only way to know if an engine is any good or not is tear it down and build it up from scratch.

thats true. i just see the 1k or 1500 dollar busses without engines or with a blown engine as a more promising deal. Smile
