For a company that "specializes in retro/original 1970s era VW campers" misspelling "Westphalia" is pretty bad. Rolling Eyes

NOS BS ! $ 280.00 http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1292463 His qoute ;
"I put a lot of pride into cleaning all my parts and spend a lot of time doing it, so if you are going to lowball me, don't even bother" .
With 24 pages of over priced parts , you would think he knows what NOS means.

It's a RIVIERA! And it needs a lot of work! Cut the price in half......maybe.

Not sure how this "ready to enjoy" bus will fare with no vacuum lines attached to the DVDA distributor? Confused Or the missing tin? Heater blower tubing missing, no engine compartment seal...

I'm just glad this 'truck' is not a 'trailer queen'! Very Happy

So, I have been trying to get a general idea of "what buses are worth" from the classifieds, and getting really frustrated. Now I know why.
I have really enjoyed reading through the past year or so of this thread.
Couple of observations, if you simply post a link to craigslist and everyone comments on it, there is little value after a month or so. If you post a sentence or two about the add (price and specific observations), then these posts become a really valuable bit of history. I know a lasting pic is hard, but that is, obviously ideal.
In several years, when a '74 bay in questionable shape is really selling for $50k, we will be able to chart the decline of the air-cooled hobby to the ultra-elitist pursuit that it is becoming.

Does anyone have a gut feeling for how often the massively overpriced classifieds are finding a buyer vs. just expiring to be floated later? Are there really sufficient buyers out there that someone can sell an early bay with painted over rust problems, crappy non-original interior, and missing engine parts for $15,000?

Oh good. I am actually trying NOT to sell my bus. We "sort of" inherited our bus, but gave some money to the daughter of the departed great uncle. That relative is now freaking out because a car dealer in her area is saying things like "oh, you could sell it for $100k in Japan"
Of course, he is totally willing to "help out" with the sale.
Cheers.

Take him up on it!, even if you have to pay a 30% commission you'll still end up with more than enough to buy a really nice bus and bank some too. Or better yet have him buy it outright right now for $50K, he'd do better on the sale that way and your relative would have cash in the bank instantly, "Time to put your money where your mouth is smartass".

Yeah! I like the second idea. Tell that sucker to put his money where his mouth is. Buy a 100k bus for 50k should be a no brainer to an obvious know it all like that guy, right?

I agree with posting info, locations and prices so we don't just have dead links. Even a copy paste.

Being a new bus owner I looked at so much crap that was listed to be great shape. I know some sold and were in the 15k range. It was so difficult to find a truly clean bay that was not exaggerated in terms of the shape. There's always newbies like myself that could of got sucked I'm but thankfully for me I am anal about research and found this site which ultimatly saved my ass.

When I finally found one I was so tired of wasting time I ended up paying more then I wanted to for it. But I love her.
