ah my favorite words to see in an ad: Ran when parked Laughing

Then here's another for you - not only ran when parked, but a recent top end rebuild! Very Happy

By rebuilt top end he must mean the addition of a progressive. Has hole in passenger side floor? How about has a hole in the lower 3 inches of the whole bus! Shocked Rolling Eyes

Come on..! Everyone knows Ohio and the other rust belt states are THE place to hunt for 40+ year old vehicles! Duh! Laughing

Can't tell from the one pic, but is the driver side dogleg gone? Shocked

ONLY THE BOTTOM PART.
Seriously, this car is moderately rusty, but I like it.
1973's with 66hp had a whole lot more power than a type1 engine bus. Sportsmobile top is probably better than a Westy, but most of the cabin part is gone on this car.
Worth much less than asking. Rust repair is expensive.

Well, that's the guy that owns "Parts Place".
I think he musta just forgot to fill those blanks in.
Whether you buy from him or not, no one can deny he knows his stuff. He often gets unusual, rest of world VW engines and markets them well.

Crumbs!

I have a set of these factory fitted on my bus, and a perfect all working original spare set with the covers, gaskets and the switch:

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1964254

I was thinking of selling the spare set for GB £150 (approx US $200).

Seeing that ad, maybe I should hold onto the spare set in case my factory ones go wrong!

I think they were fitted to ALL bays sold in Australia. (But Aussie bays did not have opening vent windows.) So, get your Ausse friend to visit breakers, send you a set.
I TRADED for mine with a guy in Oz for a set of opening vent windows.
Sounded good to me.

Pretty sure that all Canadian Westfalias had them factory fitted. My '79 did for sure and I pulled a few sets of junk buses near Toronto.

Very common in Canada, and until recently were quite cheap too... They are found on Canadian spec Westfalias all the time. Don't know if they all had them however...

Surely this is simply a case of an accidental additional zero in the price:

I don't think it is 10 times too much. More like a $20-25k car. That is a VERY nice 1970. He probably has $38k in it. Nice custom interior, changed to disc brakes, looks like very high quality work.
Big question is: Why sell it?

whoever did that 'very high quality work' must have been very high when they were doing the engine and engine compartment.

The one that sprays a cooling mist of water, foam, and oil on the belt to keep it lubricated?

It also has the vented sound deadening system.

On other gripes - got a "Volkswagen/Bosch" fuel pump from Paruzzi today. It does have spade lugs but when I ran the actual part number on it instead of coming back to the VW or Bosch part numbers advertised, it came back to a small farmer in China who produces fuel pumps from WWII cartridge shells in the winter when the fields are full of mud. It looks Bosch but shame on Paruzzi for passing off Chinese made fuel pumps as VW. It is to be a spare if the Bosch ever dies so it will do unless a genuine Bosch one falls in my hands.

Bus Depot has them. They look like the originals and are about $50 apiece with the rubber bumpers at $40 a pair. That is a lot cheaper than $700.
