Dude! A different looking Schwimmwagen!
I like how you've pieced together a couple of rear bumpers to make that one. A friend of mine has one kinda similar. |
That rear Bumper originally was used with a Single Carb set up. The upper support arms went to the rear firewall around the shroud, When I went to dual carbs I needed to use a different rear bumper or modify the one I had.
I bought a different rear bumper and did not like it, returned it and had the Fabricator I use modify the existing bumper to mount to the shock towers. Used the "ideas" from different set ups to Frankenstein the original bumper I had.
The original bumper mounted to the Cross Bar that connected the rear C-Pillars of the Cage at the firewall, was a more secure set-up..
Modified it to go around the Carbs..

Damned dual carbs anyway!!!!!!!
Been there, rode that horse...
Your single carb setup was using basically the same air filter setup I used on my 58 Baja most all of you have seen many times way back when it was a full body car with the original 36hp engine, The only difference being that I used Filtron oiled foam "sock" air filters. I still have the PVC Tee and the filter screens somewhere in my archives of old VW parts. It worked great.
But if I ran the engine, then took off the air filter tee, it would be wet with fuel spray. I decided that if I did that setup again, I would add a little height under the tee, comparable to the height of inside the top of the stock oil bath air cleaner. It's related to what is known as "reversion wave standoff". That is a reverse direction pulse wave in the intake flow from the intake flow getting stopped by the intake valve closing. There is one pulse for each cylinder in the 4-stroke firing cycle. All 4-stroke engines experience this. Not all engines is it noticeable. It shows up in the VW due to a combination of factors including the 1-into-4 intake and the valve size and cam grind.
But enough of all that. I like your Bug. _________________ Richard

Recently purchased this 69er, all the hard work done by previous owner...2074cc, 4 wheel discs, more of an on-roader than off, but great for a spin along the local beach or river bed. Plans include a roof rack and some spots, and maybe a bit more ground clearance.

Hello! I bought a Baja from California, and got the papers. Only this one. In Germany need to registration and need to know how it works in California!? The fiber body mods, the wide rims or the ID. Any othe registration form or possible to make it?

its still a vw bug, just different finders and tires. which is hardly a "mod" because you can simply reinstall factory bolt on parts.
almost all "bajas/rails are beetles on registration paperwork _________________ 70% of what you buy is something to start with.

I did a photoshoot with a 1968 Baja this morning for an upcoming issue of Aircooled Classics Magazine.
I figured I would share it here.

just thumbed through all 60 pages and will have to again because I only caught half the pics. amazing rides! gives me lots of ideas for my new project I just picked up with my dad. (I posted a thread but deleted it)
a '74 that someone started and then quit after the bumpers:
my 2nd bug, my dads 4th. it's all wrapped and tarped until spring or maybe to the shop. priority list is tear through the powertrain to get it running top notch, brakes, suspension, new wheels and tires, and interior restoration. and convince my dad to replace the fenders. then the rest is game. the street to offroad ratio will be bout 80/20 so lifting is at the bottom. |

My Baja project. I started with a stock 1970 bug. Work in progress... All steel body. This afternoon I took it out to Cinder Hills off road riding grounds Flagstaff, AZ (0.1 miles from my house)! |
