Got a subscription renewal in the mail today - won't be renewing it. I get more helpful information off this awesome website in an hour than I can get from HVW's in a 2 year subscription! Thanks Everett!! Applause

I just received the August issue yesterday and I think everyone in the hobby should read the Semaphore article on page 8. If they don't get enough revenue to keep going we all will lose big time. If you buy a part that was advertised in the mag, let the company know where you found out about it. While "Thesamba.com" has replaced a lot of what is offered in Hot VW's, it will never replace the magazine nor do I think Everett would want that to happen. Just one more time; if they go you won't be happy with what happens to the hobby and you can trust me on that one.

I know from experience that my greatest enjoyment of the VW hobby is when I get to actually go to events and interact with other VW people, as well as see the cars in the flesh and watch the drag racing, hunt for parts, etc.

The online VW scene presence would probably drive me out of the hobby altogether if that's all I had or that was available, due to the BS nonsense that results from misunderstandings on forums and the other assorted crap that happens when people don't understand context or intent of posts.

I enjoy both print and online elements for different reasons. Online, it's great to have access to technical information immediately, and print provides a permanent record of the times... online stuff eventually gets shitcanned for the sake of bandwidth and what not.

Bring the classy, sultry and even slutty woman back to the magazine, Today`s generation should be able to experience what us old school builders did back then (And trust me your missing out on a lot) when all we had were magazines to keep up with the times.

remember just waiting for that next one to come, to see what was in it? Remember trying to sneak it into class to read it without the teacher catching you? I sure do. I doubt todays kids do. Still, to get your car featured or even just photographed in a magazine is a huge compliment. Even better if they print your name - especially when they spell it right Smile

I still buy Hot Vw's and Lowrider magazine. It won't be me that lets them go out of business. It's so cheap in comparison for what they have done for our hobby. thesamba is obviuosly the best resource for information and parts, but magazines still have a place for now.

The name spelling issue isn't always the fault of the writer... I remember back in 2002 I covered the Rose City Bug-In as a freelancer for VW Trends, and took the results as submitted by the promoters. A year later I was chatting with a guy at the same event in the swap area, as he had a copy of the magazine with the article on display, as his car's engine was the Best Engine winner, I think it was...mentioned how the magazine butchered his name.
I had to explain that it was, indeed, me who wrote the article and that all I had to go on was what was provided to me by the promoter. It sucks to get a name wrong, but there wasn't anything I could do about it at that point.

Hey Ryan aka Bugnut68, were you around when I blazed through an article, a feature car, hadn't customized my Microshaft Word dictionary yet, Trends had just gotten rid of the proof reader, and the feature came out, with not one, but TWO references to a

"Gene Berg 5 speed TRANSSEXUAL" ?

Wow.. Miss spelling is one thing but ill never forget when trends featured a bus in one of their issues and the shot of the motor was printed upside down! Working in the printing industry that can get you fired but I felt worse for the owner of the bus to see that.

I remember you're story, Dave, but it's been a long time since I've seen that issue... some of my magazines are still in storage in Eugene. Here at the paper I work at presently, years ago apparently the "Public Notice" section of the classified ads was spelled incorrectly... A rather vital "l" was left out of public. Lol. I still have people occasionally tell me about that one... before my time, however. Laughing

Hot Vw's out of business!

April 2017 is the last issue of Hot Vw's magazine. Unless someone picks up the ball they will be gone forever.

I know that Hot Vw's was the magazine that got me into vw's. I remember standing at the magazine stand as a 14y/o and seeing the custom beetles and babes. I knew my first car was going to be a beetle.

Another vw giant bites the dust.

I haven't seen or read anything about this. I wouldn't be surprised though if it's true. I think the internet has doomed many printed magazines as a source of information. How many magazine have vanished in the last 10 years.

I grew up on that magazine in the 70's and 80's before the internet. I have to say that in 2017, I haven't read it much in the past 10 years. It just seems antiquated to read that magazine vs. getting online and hitting sites like this for VW information and entertainment. I'm sure kids today feel like that if they read a printed newspaper vs. them using the internet for their news.

Like the film industry was killed by digital cameras, magazines and newspapers are being killed by the internet. Just another sign that things change.

as of the 24th, they have repetedly said it is just rumor

from their FB page :

Quote:
Make Hot VWs Great Again!
Dear Valued Readers, Advertisers and Fans of Hot VWs Magazine (both Print Publication and this Facebook Page) ...
There have been several rumors circulating today regarding the status of Wright Publishing Company and one of its magazines, Dune Buggies and Hot VWs.
The truth is that Hot VWs is celebrating its 50th Anniversary and is still being published. There have been changes to the editorial staff, very much like what is happening in our Nation's Capitol. The goal is to Make Hot VWs Great Again!
Positive changes are underway. Do not believe the Fake News or Alternative Facts. You are hearing it here from the Official Source.
Together we can Make Hot VWs Great Again ... and we don't have to build a wall to do it. Everyone is welcome to send us your feedback and post a photo of your car below for all of us to enjoy!

I stand corrected. I heard this news from a reputable source. I'm glad to hear otherwise. Maybe some fresh blood will make for a better magazine.

We'll can see why subscribers are low. I got a gift card for Christmas and figured why not get HVW as a gift.
They emailed and told me I will get first mag in April.
4 months to fulfill a order????
Sounds like a long time to me

That's BS. I ordered a magazine subscription for a health and fitness mag from their site online. My first copy showed up 2 weeks later.

It's an April fools joke. The April 2017 will be the last issue. Do you get it now?
