You'll find Fram By-Pass Oil Filters here:
ISP West
Cip1

These are the correct size for most Vintage Speed applications although fittings and oil lines will have to be sourced elsewhere.

The PO of my car installed a bypass filter but disconnected it due to his Gene Berg dipstick indicating a higher oil temp. Anybody ever run into this before?

a higher oiltemperature becaus useing a bypassfillter???

the only thing i would think of is the fact, if the size of the linings is to big, and if the filter does not have a reduction hole to limit the amout of oil wich goes through the filter, the oil will search the way of the lower resistance...this could be a fakt of overheating on the bearings and raising temperature......

what does your oilpreasure if it is connected and if the engine gets on temperature??

Thanks for the info i wish the clip-1 site was better arranged so items like this were easy to find.. Thanks John for pointing out the two places to get this item as i am trying to reproduce a vintage style look on my 63 and like the look of the filter and also the added filtration cant hurt...

Anyone fab up there own cooling coil for the filter i know they can be purchased , kind of pricey but so is the filter unit.... i guess if you are going to do it then ' the look is important ' but i want to get better filtration and protect the engine better than stock while still keeping with the vintage period look.

Allso has anyone ever painted there orange Fram filter the blue colour they were from the period . the one that i have been looking at here at Clip-1 has a decal on the mounting bracket only and the body of the unit could be sprayed the correct (Blue) colour and not effect the Fram decal on the bracket?

If you go here, you'll find the decals:https://klasse356.secure.gearhost.com//catalog/ShowItems.asp?Category=DECL

...and if you go here you can find arguements for and against the Orange Fram: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1...p;start=20
...but be warned Orange v Blue has been done to death on that thread so no further discussion is needed. Smile

Can any one give me a rough idea of the , Length and diameter for the two oil lines ,I know that one has to be smaller than the other to control oil flow but if anyone could help me , i have just purchased a vintage filter and will be attempting to make the oil lines , the filter is in transit and thought i would make the oil lines up . I am going to mount the filter on the fire wall to the right of the motor

This is kind of a stupid question. What color of blue did you use? I thought I might be able to save myself from having to buy more than one can of paint.

Thanks for the help.
Rob

I am just trying to get some input from what people used. If someone wants to help, great. If not thats fine too. When I painted my wipers, it took me a few cans unitl I was happy with the color. I am just trying to avoid that again.

I will have the lines in about a week. I will post the size and length when I get them.
