looks good but think I agree with you that the reverse standoffs would suit better

No! No standoffs. Looks good though! Glad to see it on the road again.

I'm still not sure about them. Like I said, I park it outside, so rain would definitely be getting in there..which isnt good.

I'll have a video of a walk around/ driving soon. It's at AirKooled right now because the rear main seal broke and oil went everywhere. After that's fixed, she'd good to go....and I cant wait to drive it again!!!

I love the clear, but questioning why you didn't do a matt clear instead of gloss and keep the whole flat patina of the car. Very nicely done.

Thanks! Well because I will be clearing the whole car soon and I'd rather it be shiny clear patina, rather than flat clear patina.

My opinion...

Clear the car as it stands right now. Would really go well the the burn area.

See, I don't like that jer-fab car. Different doesn't always equal cool. Now if that didn't have the clear, I'd really dig it. But hey, to each their own, man. Personally I think it kills the look. To me, patina is cool because it shows the age of the car in a pure, raw form. Coating shitty paint in shiney clear just doesn't compute to me. A satin clear would make sense to preserve the look but gloss is just weird. With that said, I'm not hating on your car or your ideas, iVolkwagen. I've been watching this thread since the beginning. If you buffed the car out instead of clearing it I think it'd give it a nice sheen without looking overkill. That's what I did to my anthracite '63 when I had it.

Stole these from iaccy's thread

That's original paint that looked just as dull as yours when I got it.

now hold on a cotton pickin minute, not to bag on your brothers paint job, but Jerfabs car probably has good clear coat. It most likely has multiple coats as well mind you with proper prep work associated. Much like anything, it wont look great unless its done right.
