I've heard of people using a giant Viton O-ring for to keep jugs centered, but I think that was on the case side if you use a 1200 cylinder in a later case. On the head-end, I think the heat would just be too much over the long term for that to be reliable. A metal sleeve spacer that is a good tight fit over the end of the jug, now that might be good, I can't remember if I've heard of someone talking about that before.

I think what you have to find out first is if the combustion chamber of the DP head is wider than the 40 hp cylinder. If its wider then I think you would have to face the 40 hp jug (head end) a bit, then machine a steel ring with a step (to take up what you faced off) that presses on to the jug. This would allow the head to "think" its getting a 1600 cylinder but in fact its a 1200 with a wider face/contact surface. I wish I had some pics to show right now Sad

If the combustion chamber is fine then all you need to do is make a aluminum ring the presses into the head that makes it the size of the 40 hp jug.

Im sure its been done as the world has had the better part of 50 years to try it out Smile

But since I built that 1776 I often wondered If you could machine some rings to take up the difference in a 1600 DP head so the 40 hp juggs fit in?? A set of stock 1600 DP heads would probably run great with or without dual carbs.

Actually, I was thinking - really all you need is to keep the cylinders from floating around - why not just get the cylinder opening welded up at three points, then machined/centered to the size of the 40HP cylinder...

At some point in the last year (two?) someone in this forum had a write up about using 1600 heads on a 40 horse. I could not find it, maybe someone who is better at searching?

**edited for accuracy...

That would be me. That engine only has about 20 minutes run time on it, but it is currently installed in a kit car. I should have it up and driving in the next month or so.

build it!!, thats what im doing its not rocket science, im currently building a 1385cc with dual 28 pict's, for my 64' T-1 built a pair of manifolds and using a Scat push pull linkage, is eas pretty simple to do!! Honestly if sombdy tooled up to fab 40hp dual intakes they could be sol ans there would be a small demand for them i think for the vintage speed guys

Get a welder, and practice, practice, practice. That is what gets you to Carnegie Hall.

Heres a idea, as for the manifold whih is what will need to be welded if you can fab a nice set out of 2 stock 40hp manifolds which is what i did, if you can get the tubes cut and fitted the way you want and just tack them in place, then bring it to a pro welder to weld up for a few bucks, a buddy of mine cant weld eiether, so when he makes something he'll tack it all inplace then call me to come over and lay the bead down..lol i tell him all the time just pratice and do it, he's like "why when i can have you do it",,,lol

sorry to dig up this thread.. can anyone explain what is the best jetting for a stock 40hp with 2x28PCI's?

Book knowledge from "Jetzt mache ich ihn schneller", TDE/VAE34 setup, 2xPCI (21,5mm venturi) for stock 40hp:

Main: 110
Air: 195
Emulsion tube 8
Idle: 45
Idle air: 1,2
Accel.pump 0,3-0,5 cc

"because of engine differences, some minor changes might be needed with main and air jets "

Yeah, an available-in-the-USA and halfway-decently-affordable bolt-on manifolds+linkage kit would be great - be it for PCI, PICT or even ICT carbs.

Yes but some one has to modife the intake manifold to 40 hp heads . Empis 34itc kit looks the best for the cost plus welding ?Making the flanges for the intake manifolds is the real part to have sub let out . Wink

Hey Bro. I went into the site ... but my translator takes forever. could you see how much for some single port manifolds for some PDSIT Solex dual carbs that I could put on a 1600 single port motor that's going into a VW beetle?
