"So you're saying there's a slider on the driver's side instead? But the passenger side has the groove for the slider...."
No, RHD means that you're looking at the driver's side. The slider is on the other (the left, passenger's) side. I don't know why they left the slider track on the right if they made different stampings for the Australian body. Double slilders, maybe? I've seen different photos of this van and it is definitely RHD.
Those bumper bars on the front are called 'roo bars, because of the obvious need in Australia. |

Not the nicest I've seen but a cool photo. The donor (white single cab)
and my 1982 A.S.I Rivera.

Where can I get a table/cup holder like that one in the pics...? that is awesome...and nice van too! |
No kidding, that has enough cup holders for a whole weekend!

These tables/cupholders are/were pretty normal in Norway. If anyone is interested I might get my hand on some. I can`t tell the prize right now. I can fix shipping to USA. The weights is not bad, so I don`t thing shipping cost is SO high
I got a table like this in my Doka. Everytime we go the the beach, I snap it out and put it down in the sand between our chairs:) And guess what? Everyone around is amazed, and smile:) "What a wonderfull table"
I`ll check the prize, maybe I`ll find brand new ones. Send me a mail if this is something for you

what about the black table bracket as seen in the pic. Can you find those too? |
A table with the black bracket, just like you see in this picture is not posible to buy new. They stopped making it years ago. I just had a mail from the Norwegian comapny who made them. But it`s still possible to get a table similar to this, also black. But the they only deliver a bracket going right down. Next issue is to contact a local guy, and hear if he can make me some. The 3 bended pipes is probably ok to make/get. I just have to fix someone who can make the 90 degree bracket with screwholes.
I`m still waiting for the prize for the table. I also asked for prize included right foot. If anyone still is interested, please contact me.
Maybe you can fix the bracket yourself? Then you can buy table directly from me. Prize to come:) I`ll check out shipping cost all the way to USA
Tommy. |

It got great mileage with the replaced motor too - and would pull the Cuesta Grade in San Luis Obispo at 50+ and the pass from SLC to Park City at 55. |

Chris- can you tell us more about this engine? What were you seeing gas mileage wise? Where did you find the 2.3L? Seems like a nice upgrade. |

Well this brings up an interesting question. Do all righties have slider tracks on both sides of the van? _________________ One of these days I'm gonna settle down,

The engine is the same one that Chip at Unique built out for his own vanagon. He told me about it one day when I was considering buying the white van. I needed the transplant done quickly because I was going to take the white van cross country. He said he'd do it for $2500 and my ears perked up - especially after I drove his van and GW's were so expensive. I don't remember the specific specs, but he used quality pistons and rings. The only thing he added to mine that he didn't have on his - and this added a coupla hundred, was 1.25 ratio rockers. He had the thing done in a week and I was gone. Drove it without incident up Calif Coast - including Lost Coast - to Oregon, then across to SLC, then the great plains, to Montauk Long Island, down the east coast then across the Gulf Coast - around the time of Hurricane Ivan - and then back out to Southern California. Insane trip. Motor ran like a top. It required premium fuel and Chip also pretty much demanded that I put octane booster in it - which I did. I like Chip alot. He's a no bullshit, solid VW guy who does a ton of Vanagons: (949) 951-5201 |

The best one I've "seen" with my own eyes, is of course my own, but this one that belongs (or belonged) to Jimmy Buffett is pretty sweet.
I've got a pretty bad case of Syncro Adventurewagon Lust _________________ 1985 Westy, 1.9L automatic (Daisy)

He still owns it. I oversaw the buildout on it. He decided to get it after he saw my white AW topped Syncro westy. (I used to work for him and consider myself incredibly fortunate to call him a friend and surfing buddy). Smallcar built out the motor - a H63.0 subaru - still humming along and Seth Hatfield did a bunch of suspension work while Dennis Haynes on Long Island has kept it on the road since then. Teak and holly flooring, yacht electronics and battery setup that allows you to run the dometic rooftop a/c all night long in sweltering florida heat. Amazing van. |

That Buffett van is sweet!
Here's another that I wouldn't mind driving. It's for sale too (or was)($$$)
I just love the color, and very low key.
Check out the other vans also.

Now that I see all of the other awesome AWs, I can't help but post mine...
I am hoping to be driving it soon again... In a long process of converting to a 1.9TD engine. |

Those are some sick vans.
I just put on rhino lining on the nasty looking trim peices, bumper, and steps and I'm loving that!
My winter project is to lift it, lift it a bit more, put some bitchin off-road rims and tires, shocks, light bar, as well as a skid plate.
