No pics but a lot of progress. The beam is here and is having new link and king pins installed by the local vw guru. We decided on a mild 1614 motor and I put a deposit down. Should have it by next weekend he said. Then I'll put everything new on the pan. Break lines, fuel lines, and clutch and throttle cable. Then back to the body. I'll take lots of pics for you guys.
Still going silver with a white interior. _________________ 63 ghia coupe |

Motors is finished. Beam is all buttoned up and back in the car. Tomorrow I will bring it home and get to work on rust repair. Many pics to come!

Well, she's home. On the list. EVERYTHING. 1641 motor is built, pan has been blasted and powder coated. New CB 2 inch beam new link and king pins new brakes on the front. Gotta run all new brake lines clutch and throttle cables and do the rear breaks to get the pan pretty much done.
Rust repair, both lower rear front fenders, both lower front rear fenders and lower rear rear fenders. Front spare tire area and hood latch area. Going to build a dolly that will allow me to pull the pan in and out from under the body.
I'll start taking pics with the Nikon J1. Much better quality. _________________ 63 ghia coupe |

How big is your blast cabinet? What brand? Does it work for most items you need to blast?
Car is looking great |

It's just a small bead blaster. Maybe 3 feet wide and 1-1/2 feet deep. It does ok. I'll get the brand when Im at the shop next. _________________ 63 ghia coupe |

Thanks man. Got the lower passenger fenders cut off and patches made. Im thinking I should spray some primer and sealer under here because no paint will ever see these spots.
Quick question, the lower front rear fender inner skin. Behind the rocker. Do I need to replace this?
And for good measure

I was afraid of that. I thought I was going to get away without doing heater channels. They are super solid on the top. _________________ 63 ghia coupe |

Bummer on that rust but it is the actual structure of the car. find your self some donor rockers or a rust free body to cut out what you need. that metal is expensive and replacements fit poorly. you may need to re route your wire harness since you will be limited if you only look for rockers with the wire tube in them. good luck |

So what am I looking at here? Looks to me like the seem at the rear of the rocker is where the outter structer of this boxed rail begins. Is there a patch for just the outside? Should I just build it? The rocker looks awesome towards the front of the car and the heater channels are rock solid throughout.

First patch panel is on
Little finish welding and it'll be done. Patched seam sealed and primered behind it. _________________ 63 ghia coupe |

Still plugging away at rust removal/repair. I though my donor car was in better shape. Had to order a lot of new patch panels that I didnt think I needed. Oh well. I'm really hoping to have this car to the body shop by feb 1st. Couple months there and then back together. Since its my wife's this will be a brand new 63 karmann ghia. Every damn thing on this car will be new except the pan, body, transaxle and wheels. and those were all rebuilt. I bet I have $25-30,000 in it all said and done. Shell have it forever. Hell our 4 year old will probably learn to drive in it. So I'm ok with that.
Gotta love it.
Merry Christmas ghia lovers. _________________ 63 ghia coupe |

Those Dansk heat exchangers not only do not heat the interior well, but do not cool the engine as well in the hot Summer. You should search out later OG 60 mm HEs and fix them up instead for that engine.

Cutting sections out and fitting panels. Feels good to make some progress on the front lower section. I was dreading it.
I'll take pics as it goes back together _________________ 63 ghia coupe |
